The day that we were discharged from the hospital after the birth of my son, I noticed that his right eye "watered" constantly. I asked the pediatrician if there was something wrong with him and she said that babies sometimes get a clogged tear duct. She said when I wiped his little eye to rub my finger from the inside corner of his eye down (just to the outside of his nose)in a gentle sweeping motion. Somehow this unclogs the duct. Anyway, it took about a month, but he hasn't had a problem with it since. Hope this helps.

My son had the same thing at the exact same age. According to his doctor, it's not an infection unless the drainage has a yellow, green or other yucky color. If it's clear, it's most likely a clogged tear duct. My son's got so bad that I would have to pry his eye open in the morning. But when I took him to the doctor, they said it was just the clogged tear duct. Take your pinky finger and massage the corner of his eye - right between his eye and his nose in a circular motion every two hours. It should go away in two or three days. My son actually had this twice and the massaging cleared his up both times.

My first instinct is to say that it's a blocked tear duct, especially at this stage. Both of my kids had that. If the white of her eye is pink or blood shot, I'd be more inclined to say that it was pink eye. The only way that you can tell for sure is to call your pediatrician. Don't ever feel like you call them too much, that's what they are there for!

My son is 6 months old and has had a blocked tear duct up until a week ago. His eye would never drain and it was crusty pretty much all the time. His doctor recommended i massage his tear duct (ask your doctor how to do this, we just applied pressure and rubbed in the corner of his eye closest to his nose). It has finally gone away.

my son had the same problem. it probably is a glogged tear duct. take a warm wash cloth and gently wipe it. bring her to the doctor and we will prescibe some ointment called erythromycin and when u put it on rub it in the corner of the eye by the tear duct. it will eventually clear up.

It sounds like she just has a bit of a cold in her eye. My son had it when he was 2 months old and I heard that putting a drop of breastmilk in his eye would work. I did it it and well it cleared up within two days! You could try that, it can't hurt.

Hey Ashley,
Does her eye seem to be matted? If so, it could be the first stages of pink eye, especially if it has clear liquid coming out. If it is, your doctor will more than likely need to see her before he/she will diagnose it. If it is diagnosed as pink eye, it is simple to cure with eye drops and hand sanitizer. In the mean time, make sure she doesn't touch her eye(s) and then touch her mouth or anything. With my son, I take a warm washcloth and get the "crust" out, then wash both of our hands, and spray surfaces of toys, bed, doorknobs, etc with lysol. Another thing is that if it's pink eye, your doctor will give you a prescription for eye drops and I've gotten to the point where I recognize it early and the prescription last a while so I don't have to take the time off or the time out of daycare to treat the infection.

possibly a blocked tear duct......my daughter had one eye, then the other go the same way.....right before she turned a year old it cleared up on it's own, her pediatrician recommended light massage around the area and keeping it clean by whiping from the middle of the lid outward so as to not back up the fluid any more than it already was, definately ask your dr, but don't let them opt for surgery if they say that is all that is wrong...i was told that it may take up to 2 years for it to clear, as they get older the canal enlarges and the problem fixes itself.......some dr's opt for immediate surgery and it may not be needed.

DEAR ASHLEY, MY OLDEST CHILD HAD THE SAME THING WHEN HE WAS SMALL AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE A BLOCKED TEAR-DUCT. PERHAPS YOU COULD ASK THE PEDITRICIAN TO CHECK AND SEE IF THIS COULD POSSIBLY BE THE PROBLEM. HOPE THIS HELPS SOME.

Not sure this is the same thing, but my daughter had a clogged tear duct and it too was crusty, however I dont' remember it draining very much. Anyway, the rememdy from my pediatrician was to massage the corner of eye several times a day. It took a week or so, but it did finally clear up. Hope that helps!

Good luck,

my daughter had the same thing. it was a clogged tear duct. use murine natural tear drops, 1 or 2 3 or 4 times a day. rub the corner of the affected eye several times a day, just a little light rub, then apply a warm compress 2-3 times a day. my little girls cleared up in a week. my niece had the same thing & it took about 3-4 weeks, but still went away with no trouble.

My daughter is 6 weeks, and we just went through the same thing. Her eye was very watery and oozy/crusty. We had to wait a day to get her into the doctor, but in the meantime, good handwashing, and warm compresses to the infected eye. Gently wipe from the inner eye towards the outer portion, and repeat after changing places on the washcloth. You can do this as often as needed. The doctor then gave us some Erythromycin eye ointment to put in it, and it cleared within 2 days.
