However my mom and a couple of friends tell me that its b/e im still postpardum and under a lot of daily stress. (Im a SAHM) I havent swithced shampoos/conditioners/hair products & i wash my hair every other day. Any suggestions on reducing the amount of hair i loose?? Thanks in advance for the help.

It's very common. Happened to me, too. You might want to try take a Biotin supplement; it's helped me.

believe me, IT'S NORMAL! When I gave birth with each one of my children I always lost a ton of hair! I even had two bald spots in the front of my head. Just make sure you still take your prenatal vitamin's and drink plenty of water. It'll grow back, take it from me! I was also freaked out too when I went through it and talked to several doctors about it too and all they said was that it was normal and it'll all grow back. I even rember one doctor comparing it to a newborn baby that has alot of hair, their hair falls out too! Yet it grows back! Don't worry and stress about it too much! You'll be fine...Best wishes!

It's normal - but scary, I admit!

Apparently your head doesn't shed the dead follicles during pregnancy. After delivery (or after you stop breastfeeding), it does fall out in clumps.

I remember crying to my husband that I'd be bald before it stopped. But after a few months, it stopped. Woosh!

:)

Hair loss after having a baby is totally normal. I lost tons of hair after my babies were born. When you are pregnant hair loss slows alot. So once you have the baby you lose all that extra hair. You won't go bald. :)

Oh I am SO in your same boat! I am 8 months PP though! My hair was fine until 5 months PP and then it started falling out in clumps in the shower. I'm still waiting for it to stop. Other moms assure me I won't go bald but I don't know! I too wash my hair every other day and in the shower I just get handfuls. It's clogging all our drains, it's everywhere! I've tried supplements, etc. but nothing has helped. So I guess just hang in there! I haven't gone bald . . . YET. ;-) This is my first baby though, so I don't have any experience. But you're not alone!

Totally normal! My baby is 15 months and my hair is STILL falling out! I just got my hair cut really short cause I am so tired of wearing my hair up in a pony tail for fear of massive amounts of shedding every where I go! With my first the hair loss stopped when he was around 7 months, but each baby is different I guess :)

I started losing my hair at 5 month postpartum in large large amounts. I actually would brush my hair and have to empty the brush. I had long hair at the time. By middle of June I was fed up with losing so much so I went and had 11inchs taken off. Fast forward 7.5 months postpartum and I am still losing it in hand fulls. I have to clean my shower drain twice a week and clean out my brush in the evenings after using it in the morning and evening and before bed. I doc said it was normal and it will stop eventually.
I work full time and EBF.

I would make an appt to see your doctor, just to be sure that you are not having a thyroid problem. They can do a simple blood test to figure out what's going on.

Hi H.
This unfortunately is a "normal" problem after having a baby. You lose something like 80% of your progesterone the day after having a baby & sometimes it can take awhile longer especially if you're still progesterone deficient. I highly suggest using a progesterone cream. I use what I affectionately call "happy cream"-Prolief by Arbonne. It helps w/ many other things as well. You can find it here: www.naturallylovely.myarbonne.com. Congrats on your new baby! G
