Experiential Creative Nurturing Preschool Desired in Lakewood/Denver/Arvada

I am relocating in Sept. to Denver/Lakewood/Arvada area - I'll be working at Speer and I25--not sure exactly what neighborhood we will buy a house in yet so a wide geographic area is ok for suggestions.

I have a 4 year old son (4 in Sept.) and want to find a creative, experiential, loving preschool/daycare for fulltime care. I haven't liked any of the corporate chain places I've visited--warehousing I've heard it called. The closest to what I'm looking for so far is the Frontrange Waldorf Academy but it is very expensive and I want to find other options. I'm not looking for a Waldorf school but that one does seem to meet a lot of my criteria.

I don't want one of these kindergarden "prep" schools that is regimented, scheduled, and focused on academics (he's 4 after all, plenty of time!) I want something that will give him time in nature, develop social skills, self-esteem, imagination and creativity, problem-solving skills. I also want healthy food and would love to find a place that has a children's garden or other enrichment activities and plenty of playtime out of doors.

BTW: I'm Jewish and would consider sending my son to a temple pre-school but not likely a christian one.

Any ideas you have would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

Hi J.,
Have you checked out the Odessey (I know I spelled that incorrectly) school near Stapleton? My baby is only 6 months old, so while I'm keeping my ears open, I don't have any solid info yet on schools as it's a ways off, but I've heard some good things about that school. I also wanted to make contact with you because:
A; My husband works at NREL on solar energy research and I work for the Alliance to Save Energy and we're both big RE fans and
B: A mom's wine club sounds GREAT!

An early welcome to Denver to you. I hope to meet you when you get here. ____@____.com

Hi J.-
I too live in the Lakewood (southern) area. I belong to a temple that is starting a pre-school this year. It's B'nai Chaim and you can look up the contact info at www.bnaichaim.org. I am not too sure of the details as my daughter is 9, but maybe it is something that would work, who knows? Have a great weekend!

Hi J.! Although it seems you have had a few helpful responses, I thought I would give you the list of childcare centers that I have. Unfortunately, I can't give you any inside information about these centers as I have not personally visited them. I obtained this list when I moved here (Lakewood). I decided to place my 4 yr old son (4 in September also!) in a christian preschool. I do hope that you find the right fit for your family!

We just moved here from Texas about 4 months ago. We are also interested in making contacts with other families in our area. The wine club sounds like so much fun! I would definately be interested in hearing more when you have the chance.

Hi there,

I run an in-home daycare that sounds like it might be a fit for your family. My children and I have actually gone to the Front Range Waldorf school's parent/child group and other activities and love both the school and the people. Check out my website if you want and feel free to contact me for more information. www.freewebs.com/wildflowersfamilychildcare

There are a number of great Montessori charter schools in the Denver area. Montessori is similar to Waldorf, but more structured. My son started at Free Horizon Montessori in Golden, CO last year and has thrived. They offer a before and after care program so he can be there untill 6pm. The staff is amazing and the school just moved into a new building. If this school does not work for you, there are a number of other schools in the are; Compass Montessori (Arvada area),Cornerstone Montessori (Golden), Golden Montessori (Golden), Montessori Peaks (Littleton), Denver Montessori (This might be a little more pricey because it is private). Good luck in finding what works for your family!

Hi J.,
My good friend Rachel sends her 2 yr old son to a temple preschool with VERY reasonable rates and creative, nurturing environment....it's over on Monaco and i can't remember the name of it- hang on, I'll ask!
"Its BMH-BJ Congregation Daycare. If I could hug and squeeze them, I would. LOVE THEM. Highest recommendation."
straight from the horse's mouth.
good luck!

We, too are Jewish and my 3 year old daughter goes to the Jewish Community Center preschool. I am extremely happy with the school. Her teachers were incredibly loving, creative and dedicated to the children's development. I hear several of the synagogue schools are also very good. Depending on where you decide to move-Hebrew Educational Alliance, Rodef Shalom, Temple Sinai and Temple Emanuel are the most well known. Rodef would have been my second choice. One good note for the JCC, they are on a reformed Jewish schedule, so if you need full time care, you have a little more care provided than at the synagogues.
Anyway-hope this helps. Good Luck!
