M.,

I had our little girl at St. Joe, but my sister-in-law had her second child there and liked the doctors. Her husband, my younger brother, is now a registered nurse there on staff with the NICU unit. I hope you don't have to use those facilities, but Ken says they are state-of the-art. Overland Park Regionals goal is to set up one of the best OBGYN and Neonatal units in the KC metro area. I had to go there during my second trimester for a level two sonagram with our daughter.

Congratulations!

J.

I had my son there last February and I had no complaints. Everyone was great, the staff was nice and I was pretty high maintenance being a new mother and all, so I called for them quite a lot. And they were always quick and friendly! :)

Our experience was great. I went in for a scheduled C-Section and was expecting a healthy baby, but to our surprise our son was born with serious respiratory problems and ended up on a ventilator and had to spend almost a month in the NICU. My nurses were great, but the NICU nurses were exceptional. They made sure to take the time to explain every detail of my son's care, while never overlooking the opportunity to lend us emotional support. I hop you will never have to spend any time in the NICU, but if you do, this is the place you want to be. Other than that, the rooms were nice and I was well taken care of - they even allowed me to stay 3 extra days for free so I could be closer to my son after my discharge. I would definitely recommend this hospital to any one having a baby.

Hi M. -

Congrats on your new baby! I've had 2 children at Overland Park Regional - one in January 05, and one in June of this year. I had an awesome experience there both times! The nurses are great and very helpful. My sister also had her son there in September of 02 - he was born with Down's Syndrome and 3 holes in his heart. Needless to say, he went straight to the NICU - which, again, was awesome. They were very caring and helpful for her family also. Good luck to you!

I can't say enough about that place!!! I have had both of my daughters there and am 11 weeks pregnant and plan on delivering there in June (hopefully right)!! My 1st was born in December of 2002 and I had a Midwife with the OB standing by because she was face up. She had no complications, did great. I am the one that had the complications and the treated me wonderfully!
2nd daughter born in February of 2005, was delivered by a midwife again, and my only complaint is on the anesthesiologist who administered my epidural. I had one in 02 and had no problems and I understand the risks involved… but the spinal headache is no fun or the blood patch to fix what they did… but the delivery was awesome! Nurses are absolutely fantastic! That’s why I am going back… I won’t be getting an epidural! But I will be there again!!!

M.,
I gave birth to my second son 1 &1/2 years ago at OPRMC and it was great. I am a doula, meaning I coach women and their partners through childbirth, and help those who want it to have a natural birth. I had a natural child birth with my first son, and wanted the same with my second. I brought a birth plan to the hospital, and they were VERY respectful of all of my choices. My birth was peaceful, natural, and relaxed, just what I had hoped for. I find that sometimes your experience at a hospital is all about YOU - your birth plan, education, your choices, and your initiative to follow through with those.
Good luck, and if you want any help in your labor, I would be glad to talk with you about doula services!!
