Experience at Kindermusik

I have a 14 month old daughter and I am looking for an activity like the Kindermusik classes that I can do with her during the week. She seems to really like music but I'm wondering if she might still be a little young to really understand how to participate in the class. I've heard mixed reviews from other moms who have participated with kids in about the same age group. Some loved it, while a few indicated that their child was more interested in getting up and walking all over the place instead of sitting in a circle and doing the music exercises. I'd like to get some feedback from others who have done this program with their little ones. What did you like and dislike about it?

What can I do next?

We've done both Kindermusik in Southlake and Gymboree in Lewisville and to be honest, I just don't like the way Kindermusik breaks down the ages of the children in the classes. In Gymboree the kids are closer in ages/stages and my son just seemed to enjoy the Gymboree music class much more! We had actually signed up for the regular Gymboree classes but had some free trial classes and ended up switching to the music ones because he loved them so much! The teacher, Al in Lewisville is soooo wonderful, I loved the class as much as Ryan did! :)

I started taking my charge to kindermusik about the time he was really crawling and the thing you HAVE to understand is once your child starts walking....to them it huge...they wanna get up an walk around and explore and kindermusik is the type of class where the teachers understand that...now Zachary is 13 months old walking everywhere and he likes kindermusik or at least seems to sometimes the activities are things he really enjoys....his parents bought him toys off of the website for his birthday that he absolutly loves, we listen to the cds often they are great in the car and in my opinion its a laid back environment so if your looking for something like a little gym its not this class but its a great place to go and play and dance with your child Zachary loves to dance...but you have to be creative....Zach love to go upside down so i dip him while holding him of course and i just try to keep him as occupied as possible i would recomend kindermusik as a great activity for most children....even if they are walking more than sitting in the circle....

My son started when he was about 13 months and all he did was walk around during the class. He enjoyed the cd's and learned alot (more when we did the activities at home). It was really hard to keep him sitting when there were other kids running around, too. You can take a free preview class before signing up to see how you like it. That is what we did.

My daughter went ot kindermusk in Coppell from 6 wks to 10 months. She loved it so much! I would keep going, but I decided to stay home. Therefore, we needed to cut costs. She loved her class so much. I highly recommend their program. My friends son when from 14-19 months. She said he loved it, also. Your daughter will be put in a class with other kiddos her age. The teachers normally let the kids explore and then tries to bring them back to the group, but I don't think there is much sitting in the music classes.... Good luck!

I have an ACTIVE 21 month old and we've done a few Kindermusik classes both at the Coppell location and at the Las Colinas Rec Center. I think it depends on who your instructor is as far as the class goes. We first did the Signing class when my ds was about 10 months old. I think he was too young and the instructor, although very nice, kind of got on my nerves. We did two 5 week courses this summer (Zoo Train and Ocean Discoveries). We really enjoyed the Zoo Train class. Heidi is our instructor and she is very understanding when it comes to active little boys (and girls). My ds likes to move and run around. She doesn't discourage this or make me feel bad about it. Her take is that it's also a movement class and he's moving to the music. The older kids are more likely to sit in their mom's laps so I felt a little awkward about my ds standing and being so active. At first I woudl try and make him sit, but she'd tell me not to. I think he would have just ended up screaming anyway. I think he really enjoyed the class and I would recomend checking who your instructor will be. If it's Heidi, I would say go for it. I honestly don't know how the other instructors would be.

I did Kindermusik with my oldest two boys, and they both loved it. I never really had any issues with them trying to run off and do their own thing; the activities that were going on moved along quickly and held their interest really well. I would imagine a lot of it has to do with the class size and the teacher. Also, they were both in it from the time they were 3-4 months old, so I don't know if it would have been more of an adjustment if we had started when they were older.

I think it's a great program. I really can't think of anything that I disliked about it. The only reason we didn't continue in it was the expense.

My daughter did Kindermusik in Coppell from the time she was 2 months old until she was 2 1/2. She loved it and I loved it and I made good friends there. Even though they walk around they are still listening. My daughter was one of the walkers and hated to sit in my lap but she was still listening. When my son was born he went for a semester until he got too big for me to carry around. All the getting up and down with him was killing my back. I really miss it and we still listen to the cds all the time. I love them. We also have several of the items out of the catalog. I keep hoping to put my son in the signing classes but we'll have to wait to check on scheduling. We've always had Suzanne as our teacher except on one occasion when she was out and I and my kids love her. I agree that if you can find a teacher you like it's very much worth the experience.

Hi,

Both my boys went to Kindermusik at Korner Kottage in Coppel. My oldest son had a great teacher and he loved the classes. He is also autistic and circle time and sitting is really hard for him, but he did really well. My youngest son started after our first teacher moved on to other things and I was not impressed with the new teacher. She did not move very fast, kept refering to her lesson plans and totally lost the kids interest. We quit after the first class. So, I guess what I'm saying is that it really does depend on the teacher. The teacher needs to be up beat and know the lesson plan well in order to keep moving along. It is expensive, but if you have the right teacher it is well worth it!

I have a 2 year old daughter and we have done Kindermusik since she was 6 months old. When she first started to walk, she was always walking around during class as you are talking about, but the teacher would still include her/talk to her and we kept singing songs. All of a sudden (between 18-24 months)she started singing the songs and doing the actions/dances at home. She LOVES Kindermusik and requests the CD often by name of a song. She doesn't always do just what the teacher requests in class or sing along in class, but she most definately is absorbing every bit of it in a way that a 2 year old would.

So don't expect a 14 month old to participate like a 3 year old can, but be assured, she is getting something out of the class and we LOVE Kindermusik! Our teacher is Lissa Bostick in Frisco.
