Excessive Fetal Movements

Last night and earlier this evening my son has been kicking the same spot on my lower left abdomen literally every second. It lasted for about an hour last night (Very distracting while trying to sleep) and for about half an hour tonight. I thought it may have been hiccups because I was told that hiccups felt like rhythmical movements, and since it was one kick every second he definitely had a rhythm going. Then I realized that I could see my tummy moving with each kick, so I don't think it was hiccups. Any ideas on what it was the little devil was doing in there? Or if it's dangerous for him to be moving this much? I'm going to talk to my doctor about it at my appointment on Tuesday but I figured I'd see if any of you ladies knew.

What can I do next?

I had a super mover. My Dr. told me, that she had never seen anything like it! He would kick and move in the same ways from 1am - 5 am every single night. He was always looked really good in my belly and is still super healthy 16 months later. My Dr. told me lots of movement, is a great thing!

When my son would get the hiccups my whole abdomen would shake. Fortunately he'd mostly get them in the daytime, but it did make it hard to concentrate on things.

depending on how far along it could still be hickups both my others had them and the further along you are the bigger the baby and the easier to see anyt kind of movements of any sort, or at least on most people its easier to see.

Im 6 months pregnant with a girl and she is nuts. One night I counted over 200 movements from her in less than an hour. It was pretty ridiculous. She has been a super mover since 13 weeks. She usually does it only at night, right after I lay down. It sounds like your baby might have had the hiccups. When they get the hiccups their whole body moves and depending on where they are laying, you could very well see the movements.

my daughter used to do the same thing... she actually did it while i was having an ultrasound, she was flexing her arm and flicking her wrist back and forth lol as though she was waving. i dont think its anything to worry about. it could have been hiccups too, i always watching my tummy jump since she got them about 4 times a day toward the end.

its normal, my baby was very hyper and now she is 7 months old and doing the same, i am very busy mom. be happy if the baby moves a lot, better then too quiet, you will be worry what is wrong and why they are so quiet.
good luck

Sorry i almost laughed when i first saw this. My baby did the same thing. The movements were reassuring to me, but we had several bumps in my pregnancy at this point.
Not a problem at all. My doc would always comment on the movements picked up by my nst's.

It sounds normal to me. My first was so bouncy I could videotape my belly movements, it was hilarious! My second never did get that active, and didn't kick in the same places at all...

I called my OB for a similar reason when I was pregnant with my first child. He told me not to worry that I was feeling a lot of movement, and that it was a good thing. What you are experiencing sounds perfectly normal to me, and it also sounds like hiccups! My whole belly would shake when my babies had hiccups!

lol it probably is just hiccups. babies have a lot of hiccups sometimes; i know my son did! he didnt do a lot of kicking, but he DID do a lot of hiccuping. like you said, it was rhythmic so it was most definatly hiccups. what could cause what you SAW however was the face that his hiccup shakes his body, so his body twiches, it could be a foot "kicking" you when he hiccups :P :P

anyway, i wouldnt worry.

Sounds like you could have an active child once this baby is born. My oldest was the same way--he moved around so much during the ultrasound the technician couldn't find his kidneys at first. He also used to punch and kick me so hard that he bruised one of my internal ligaments. The ultrasound technician warned me I had a "gymnast" on my hands. He did turn out to be an extremely active baby and toddler. The only other thing is whether you ate or drank something that may have bothered the baby. What about caffeine? Even a small amount of caffeine can increase the baby's activity level. Finally, babies in utero usually sleep when you are awake and awake when you are resting or sleeping so it is natural for them to be a little more active in the evening and during the night. Best wishes on the rest of your pregnancy!

I'm pretty sure it was hiccups. Both of mine got them in the last weeks of my pregnancy. After you deliver and you are holding your baby in your arms and he/she gets hiccups you'll crack up remembering how it felt when he/she was in your tummy.

You can buy monitor with headphones to hear the baby's heart rate yourself at home. It depends on the position of the baby on whether or not it works. It was reassuring to me to listen to it sometimes. The heart rate for babies is much faster than for adults, but I don't remember the range offhand. If under stress, the rate would not be normal.
