eczema is caused by many different things. My girlfriends daughter has it, and it is from allergies. They use Eucerin cream. and mix with 1/2 be hydrocotorzone creme. My sons eczema is from outside allergies, so we also give him Zyrtek and that helps a lot.

My daughter's eczema just got worse, too and we went to the doctor. She recommended 2 different creasm to try - the first is AvenoBaby for Dry skin and Eczema (this one didn't work well for my daughter) the second is Vanicream (which has worked great!) It is hard to find Vanicream on the shelves of stores but if you go to CVS or Target and ask the pharmacist, they usually have it behind the counter or can special order it (it's not expensive).

Cetaphil is good. I also use Too Shea from Bath and Body Works. It's expensive, but I think it's worth it. It's 100% pure shea butter and nothing else. No scents, no colors, nothing. Just pure shea butter.

Good luck to you.

My son is on elidel cream I find all the other excema creams seem to dry him out so badly.
We use Aveeno baby soothing relief moisture cream it's the one with the dark blue base. It seems to be the only one that doesn't totally dry him out.
If your son has an allergy to oatmeal don't use it. Not all aveeno seem to work.
We've tried honestly every med and cream to put moisture back in. Alot of them seem to make it worse.
We now are working out why he's got the excema and have found he's got some know allergies that worsen it.
good luck

I'm not sure what moisturizer your son's doc has him on, but my sister has excema and she swears by the Eucerin cream. She has also tried Curel which has worked for her too.

Renew lotion. There are other products in the same line as well. It is much better than the other products on the market.

We have been using Vanicream on our son and it's worked well. You can special order it at most pharmacies (usually takes one day to arrive) or it can be ordered online at various sites. We order from www.dermadoctor.com

As the others asked - is it the moisturizer irritating his skin? You don't say how old he is, but our pediatrician told me to use Cetaphil soap, and the cream moisturizer. My son has sensitive skin and had rashes from the fragrance in many soaps and moisturizers. It has worked a treat - his skin is great. You can buy it from Costco in the large sizes, if you are a member. Anyone can use it - I use it myself now too, since I have it.

My son has had eczema for a while and, after trying lots of things, I've had the best luck with Cetaphil cream (in the tub). (In fact, I like the Cetaphil so much I've started using it for myself!) Eucerin (also in a tub) would be a close second choice for us. Some of it is a little bit preference, so you may need to try a few things, but Cetaphil is definitely our top choice for my son's eczema.

We also use a medicated lotion prescribed by our dr. for the bad patches only. The Cetaphil goes everywhere else.

Ezema is the body's way of letting go of toxins. The liver is working overtime. Using topical creams will help the itching temporarily, but do not look @ the root cause. Usually a food allergy. Common allergens are: dairy, soy, wheat, nuts, corn. Time to get to a naturpath and start an allergy elimination diet. This does work and will in the long run eliminate the ezema. In the meantime. Go to a health food store and look in the section with lotions and creams. There are several that are specifically for ezema.

I have only ever used Vaseline for my son (now 2) but it gets worse if he wears anything that has been washed in regular detergent (I make my own and he almost never has breakouts anymore). I have used Aveeno baby moisturizer, but didn't find it any better than Vaseline in the long run for him.

These two products worked quite well on my son.

Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisturizing Cream:
http://www.amazon.com/Aveeno-Soothing-Relief-Moisture-Cre...

Looks like they now make a product just for eczema which I have not tried:
http://www.amazon.com/Aveeno-Eczema-Therapy-Moisturizing-...

The product works really well. However, I have a personal dilema with Johnson & Johnson. So when I discovered they owned Aveeno (I think they bought Aveeno out, but cannot remember) I found another product. If you don't mind J&J, then go for it.

The other product I tried, that was recommended by the pediatrician was Eucerin Aquaphor:

http://www.amazon.com/Aquaphor-Healing-Ointment/dp/B0006M...

I think it comes in tubes now, not just tubs. It is kind of clearish and has a slightly lighter consistancy than vasaline. It does not sting like the other Eucerin products. It is kinda icky to put on, but it works really, really well.

Try Eucerin cream. It comes in a pot/tub and a big jar is about $15. My daughter had it really bad as an infant. The creamis really thick but it puts a nice layer of moisturization on the child's skin.
I hope it works for your son.

I second the notion that it might be caused by allergies, so visiting an allergist might be a good idea.

For my daughter, washing her only once a week rather than more frequently really helped, and so did using a small amount of very gentle soap only for her hair (and just water to clean the rest of her). I still don't use very much soap to clean her. Also, change your kid's clothes as soon as you notice that they are sweaty.

My daughter has eczema and the doctor recommended either Cetaphil or Eucerin CREAM. She told me absolutely, positively do not use anything that says 'lotion' as all lotions are water based and so they don't really stick to the skin. Anyway, I have used Cetaphil Cream on my daughter (it comes in a tub) since she was born and her skin is now amazing. The only place that you can really see any evidence of the eczema is on the back of her knees, but for the most part (minus the occasional flair up), her arms, stomach and even places on her face have no real evidence of the skin problem any longer. It has worked wonders for her.

We use Aquaphor on my son's excema and it seems to work great. Also, we give him a powdered probiotic in his milk, oatmeal or yogurt to help from the inside out. This seems to be helping as his flare ups haven't been so bad or as numerous.

could be bothered by something in the moisturizer. my daughter had it really bad to the point where her skin wept. we tried all kinds of creams and prescriptions steroids and nothing worked. her's is hereditary. the only thing that worked was the california baby calendula cream. they sell it at target. her ped said it was good to use. we bathed her only once a week with dove soap and california baby shampoo. her skin cleared up in about a week. it was amazing. the key is to bathe him, and then as soon as you pat him dry lather him in the cream while the pores are still open. use detergents like tide free. and keep him cool - anytime she got hot, it got worse. she is over it now. we still lather her in cream after her baths.

Could it be the moisturizer altogether? Our child has trouble will a lot of topical things that will irriatate her skin and cause the excema. We can sometimes use hyrocoirtisone cream, and when that fails, we use prescription elidil. It works for her!

Eucerin Original Moisturizing Lotion. I see a lot of suggestions for the cream, but find the lotion more than thick enough for my daughter. Slightly warm bath every night (Robathol oil or Dove sensitive skin if dirty) to moisturize, then immediately slather with lotion/cream of choice. The Robathol can be ordered on line, but we found it made an amazing difference in calming her skin. I order it at www.psico.com along with some of the Vanicream products. We use Vaseline at night when she gets worse, then cover with jammies. Good luck!
