Ever Hire a Professional to Paint the Interior of Your House?

If so, how much did you pay?
I have asked a friend of a friend to paint a vacant property that I own. I'm not sure how much money to offer her. She does not have professional painting experience, but she has a lot of personal painting experience, if that makes sense. I think she will do a terrific job and I want to offer fair pay. If you hired a professional, how much did you pay?

What can I do next?

$3700 for the whole main level - approx 1700 sq ft. But we had extensive paint work done, 5 different colors, and lots and lots of trim work, windows and doors painted. We had one estimate for $10,500. We were so happy with the guy we chose. He was very meticulous and had a great crew. It took them 5 full days.

My mom paid 1500 to have her double wide mobile home painted last year.. it was really nicotine stained, the guy put a coat of primer first then painted.
Im not sure of her square footage, I'll guess at about 1,000 ft. Plus he did patching where necessary. He was not a professional but someone that does "handyman" work. Plus he had to move her furniture away from walls and cover stuff. She thought it was high, but I told her it wasnt because of all the labor he really had to do. She also paid for the paint and primer on top of the 1500.

Yeah as you can see from Mona's response they are crazy expensive.

Thing is a non-professional wants a lot less. In return you have to accept small imperfections. I am not professional but I don't make mistakes, I have never painted for money mind you. Looking around my family room that I have painted many times, it is 18 x 24 with 9ft ceilings. I would change around 300 to paint this room if I had time to paint for others. :)

We live in NH and had soot damage. We had to have the whole house painted. The painter we hired charged $3800.00 but he did primer on the walls, then 2 coats of paint on each wall and we have 6 different colors that we used. He also did the ceiling, doors, trim and spray painted the base board heaters. He was fully insured and did a great job. We lucked out and our insurance paid for it but if we were going to have the house painted in the future we would call him again. Thought the price was fair for the amount of work that he and his partner did. Took 6 days and about 6 hours per day.

Yes. We hired someone to do our living room, foyer, hallways and kitchen when we moved into our house, and they are all big areas. He asked for $500 for all of that. He was a professional who had lost his job. I thought it was a good deal, hiring a professional is expensive.

I recently hired a handyman to paint an apt. that I own. The apt. is 1100 sq. ft. He charged me $15/hour plus supplies. The whole job cost me $900. A few years ago, I had a pro painter come out to my house to paint my son's 10X12 bedroom and he wanted $1600. I thought that was crazy, so I painted it myself. If I were you, I would look at getting some college kid or someone who is unemployed and offer them a per hour fee to see if they'd paint for you.

My brother paints professionally and charges $35 hr. For someone who knows what they are doing, but doesn't carry all the insurance, etc, I think $15 hr would be a reasonable and more than fair offer.

We paid from $1500 for 2500 square feet to $2700 for 1900 square feet which was lower than any professionals in the area. Our walls needed patched and the texture matched which added to it.
Professionals asked double to triple these prices so we took a chance.
