I currently make a smoothie each morning and include Shaklee's soy protein powder in it. I drink this in place of eating a breakfast. I am curious what other's make or add in to their daily smoothies. I am in great need of some energy.

What can I do next?

I really like the Spiru-Tein powders. I have been using them off and on for about 10 years. High quality, very good taste, and a good variety of flavors. I buy it at Fruitful Yield buy you can usually find them at Whole Foods and GNC stores. They sell individual serving packets that are perfect for trying a new flavor. They are also sold in 1 and 2 pound cans.

Hi T.,

I make smoothies alot for me and my girls. I add frozen fruit, bananas, plain yogurt and Carnation Instant Breakfast packages (Vanilla flavor). I also add Wheat Germ and ground Flax Seed. I would be interested in any ideas you have also (____@____.com).

Thanks and Have a Great Day!

Hi T.,

I use Usana's Nutrimeal Shakes because they are low-glycemic meal replacement that contains protein, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, and many micronutrients. My husband has a shake every morning for breakfast. I also supplement my diet and take vitamins.

I would be careful before taking "extra" iron pills unless your doctor tells you that your iron deficiency is low.

If you're interested in learning more about Usana's Nutrimeal shakes and/or vitamins, you can send me a message on mamasource.

Good luck with your shakes! By the way, I love to add a TBS of peanut butter in my chocolate shakes :-)

Add B complex. It's specific job is to convert food to Energy. Do your best to stay away from sugar, it can be debilitating. Not right away, but in a few hours.

VIVIX give a great sustained energy, and consider purchasing the Shaklee Energy Tea for mid day snack

Hi T.,

I must first say you are on the right path by choosing Shaklee. I use the Energizing Soy Protein in the morning, mixed with Skim milk. I use a full serving of the Soy Protein, PLUS a half serving of Shaklee's Cinch Meal Replacement shake. It totally sustains me. In addition to that, I take a Vitamin B complex which also gives a boost and some Iron! You might think of adding some banana and yogurt to your smoothie as well. That might help a bit.

If you are looking for more detailed information, please feel free to contact me via personal message. I'm happy to explore options with you!

Hey T.,
I think Shaklee has some great products. I know lots of people that like them. What works for me is a all in one formula from Reliv. I was really ill before taking their products, including terrible fatigue. I tried lots of different products and separate vitamins and just could get where I wanted to be. Reliv products are powder and can be added to any liquid. Let me know if you want more info. Good luck! G.

In place of Shaklee's protein powder, have you considered trying their Cinch shakes? They are designed for meal replacement, and the 4 different flavors are so good! (Cafe Latte is my fave!) I have a list of *recipes* for making different and interesting flavors with Cinch--I'll be happy to forward it if you want.

Hi T.,
Smoothies are a good thing. You don't mention if you are doing any exercise or taking any vitamins or if you have seen a doctor for checkup recently.
If your thyroid is out of balance "hypothyroid" this can cause you to feel "low energy".
Congratulations on having two children. Being the mom of 10 month old child can take a lot of energy also.
Consider having medical checkup to rule out "low iron" and thyroid balance issues.
I recommend having some type of exercise every day - this can be taking out your son in stroller (my appologies if you are already doing this).
I find that yoga gives me a ton of personal energy. On Tuesdays there is "baby and me class" where you would be welcome along with your son - described at www.universalspirityoga.com
Also, you can walk indoors at Fox Valley Mall at 8am (enter by the Ruby Tuesday entrance) for free. This is a great thing given our recent rains and cold weather.
I'd also consider working with nutrition expert on your eating patterns to get more detailed review of your meals. My family has had success with Diane Bubeck - she's http://www.bubeckandassociates.com/

I have always bought fresh fruit...strawberries,blueberries,bananas...whatever you like and cut them up and freeze them in baggies. Then everyday I just put a few in the blender with my protien powder. It tastes good and gives you some fiber with it , too. HOpe that helps.

Greek yogurt is great to add. You can get low fat and higher protein than most other yogurts.

I also love Shaklee's Vitalizer daily vitamin strips which include a multivitamin, b complex, vit c, vit e, omega 3's, and a probiotic.

All meals should have carbs, fats, and protein in them. The combination will help sustain your energy for a longer period of time. Perhaps you should supplement your shake with food, like a whole grain muffin with natural peanut butter (has all three - carbs, fats, protein) or plain greek yogurt?

Hi T.,
I'm sorry if this is too much advice because I know it's not answering your question, but I just wanted to share with you that when my daughter was your son's age I was so, so, so tired all the time. I now realize that I was really iron-deficient. Recently I upped my iron intake and my energy increased. Good luck with your smoothies! :)

Arbonne makes some amazing protein power in vanilla, chocolate and Chai. They really curb my hunger for the whole morning. Let me know if you would like more info.
