Enduring Sleepover with 6 Little Girls!

Not a request just venting...I am so not the type who likes extra kids in my house but I relented for my daughter's 8th birthday party. So...now it's almost 1 a.m. and I have little girls running around everywhere. One just ate all my cherries! I am very stingy with my cherries and at 3.99 a pound I just bought $12 worth of cherries today and she ate almost all of them! Then there's the bossy one (it's not my daughter for once). I'm not really intervening just kind of listening in. My only rule was make sure that everyone is invovled...don't leave anyone out. Just wondering if I'm a bad mom or my personality just doesn't lend itself to hosting sleepovers. I am wishing I had hosted an "almost sleepover" when they go home at midnight! I know, I'm terrible. I have banished them to my daughter's room at 1:00 a.m. though. They even asked me if they could make coffee so they could stay up longer!

What can I do next?

OMGosh you sound just like me! I have 3 girls 21,18,7 and 1 poor boy 9. When the two older girls were young I let them have overnights and it was just as you described! Now my younger two with a different hub (although he was there when the girls were 6 and 9 he went thru it as well) Im pretty sure I could just say no to overnights altogether! my neighbor lets her girls do it a lot and I go over and don't know what in the world she was thinking! I just don't have the patience I used to. I actually dread going to school functions because I am so burned out on the first two kids and that is so unfair to these two! I babysit my nephews before and after school and summer most days and another friends daughter that is 9 and I had them all the other day and my house was destroyed even though I was after them to pick up what they did it was still crazy. Guess I signed up for it that is what I get. It is good money for me since I only work thru school year at the high school in the lunch room and don't get paid in the summer. Getting a pool installed in a wk or so and hopefully that will relieve me. As the girls get older they get meaner! they start leaving other girls out hurting feelings etc. I hear it all from my neighbor. CRAZY! Not looking forward to it at all!

J. I hope you survived!!!! We had our first when our girls were 6 & 7. I know how you feel. We even had one who thought she was gonna throw up and her mom had warned us of this tactic. She was fine, but a pain in the hoohoo. We survived to even have more in the future. I learned from the first one that we put in a movie and made everyone lay down and watch, when the movie was over they had to go to sleep. No exceptions. Half were asleep before the movie was over. We've done this with every sleep over and our biggest group was 14. Believe me, our house isn't that big either.
If you get amnesia and decide to have another one, get advice before hand, and no coffee ;o)
I'm sorry about your cherries. I totally understand. If there is a next time, hide everything.
Again, I hope you survived and got some sleep. Have a great Sunday! God Bless.

Well, I guess they can call us bad moms together. I am not into the sleepover thing either. I have kept a friend's kids before overnight as a favor and I endured it, but just to have other children over is not my idea of a good time. I relish bedtime when my house gets quiet and my two little angels are fast asleep (by 9 p.m. at the latest) and I can just chill with a glass of wine, a book, a good tv show, etc. This is the time of the day that keeps me sane. I can't do the staying up until 1 a.m. with crazy kids all over my house. I'm so bad that I hesitate letting my son sleep over at other people's houses because I don't want to feel like I have to reciprocate. I guess if people have negative things to say about your "attitude" then they will have plenty to say about mine. I love kids for the most part, but if they aren't mine, then I just need them in moderation. At some point you will probably have to have the token sleepover with one other child, but you don't have to do big party sleepovers if they aren't you thing. Stick to things that make your daughter AND YOU happy!

I understand what you are saying! I think it is really hard to watch other peoples kids because they don't always teach them to be on their best behavior at someone elses house. Mabe the parents don't know what best behavior is. Having six girls together is also draining!! The only thing I would do if there was a next time is have more rules. Just because you have more rules doesn't mean they still won't have fun. Perhaps some activities like rent a bunch of chick flicks from Blockbuster and make some popcorn or get some cheap beads and let them make their own jewelry. Just a thought.
