My kids and I are going to be taking some looooong airplane rides in a couple of months - like 20 hours each way long. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for good iPad apps to help keep my 3-y.o. daughter occupied? We have enough of the puzzle, memory matching, and drawing ones, but I'd like to have more that focus on phonics and numbers. And I'm open for ones that are just fun. I've done searches on the App store, and it seems like most of the "free" ones are just trial versions of a more complete game. I'd prefer not to have pay for apps, but I am willing to do so for a really good one. Oh, and quiet ones are also preferred, since we will be on a plane and I don't want to disturb other people. My daughter isn't great with headphones at this age.
Also, I am wondering if any of those kiddie tablet toys are any good? My 6-y.o. son will also be on the trip with us, and I'm sure there will inevitably be some bickering over the iPad once boredom sets in (plus I'll want to use it sometimes as well). If I can get my daughter one of those cheap ones that come preloaded with age-appropriate games for her, that might be an easy solution to that problem, plus then I won't have to worry about her breaking my tablet.
(I will have other non-screen-oriented activities for them on the flight, but I'd like to explore all my options. It's going to be a big trip.)

My 3 year old son loves monkey math and letter school. These are both worth the money. He also likes starfall.
Skip the kiddie tablet and just buy a cheap real tablet.
We just spent two weeks at my in-laws overseas. I purchased the Farfaria app which provides stories. Both my girls (5 yo and other one turned 3 while there) loved the stories! For the plane you will have to download a bunch to the Favorites. It was a great app for bedtime stories as I did not have to lug a bunch of books in our luggage.
There are a lot of cheap drawing apps and both my girls love those too.
My daughters 2yr, 4yr love all these apps, some cost .99 or little more or free... Endless ABC, Letter School, Alphabet,
Little Writer/Words, Play 123, Agnitus... And there all learning games...
Wow. A 3 year old is better with technology than I ....

But the best things are the books. I downloaded a lot of dr Seuss, mother goose, just a little critter and any other favorites I could find. They all cost, I think, but they are interactive and awesome, way more run and engaging than a mere "recorded book"
I bought my son an android tablet for Christmas. I would have been better off buying him a paperweight. I would have been much better off getting the iPad mini-but it was difficult to find at Chrstmastime. Just be sure to buy good cases-I have the otter box on my iPad.
Some of the trial versions of games are my daughters favs. Pepibath, any toca app(ietoca monsters), barbie I can be, tiny dentist, baby dress up, rapunzel, hanzel and gretel, old McDonald, park math (I paid for that one-but it's educational and she hasn't lost interest-she would need volume for that unless she can read), and awesome eats.
We went on a 6 hour flight last year. I laid tge iPad rules out prior to take off-everyone gets timed turns just like at home. I also packed coloring books and books to read. Dad eventually asked for a turn-and found out the iPad is not so bad after all.
