I'm a 25 year old mother of a beautiful 3 year old little girl. Because of her birthday falling in september, she's not going to be able to start kindergarten until she's 5, almost 6, years old. I'm not trying to rush her into school, but that's all she can talk about. I would love to push it off for about another 20 to 50 years!!! She can recite her ABC's, write about half of them, count to 20, count to 10 in spanish, and add simple numbers. Are there any programs out there that will get her into school early? I'd hate for her to have to wait so long to start school, when I feel like she'll be ready for it this August.

Please let me know about any programs or schools that will accept her at her age, except for daycare.
Thanks,
A.

Check out Montessori Schools. They can be a little pricey but not much more than daycare and well worth it! She will be put in class with children at her learning level and move through the grades at her pace - not by some system based on birthdays! Good Luck!

VPK...voluntary pre-kindergarten...we voted it in several years ago. It is offered free to all the children. Many day cares, elementry schools and church pre-schools offer this FREE program in Pinellas county.
If you aren't in Pinellas, check into a similar program in your county.

I also have a 4 year old whos birthday is sep 21, she too will go late to school. I used to stress about it, but not anymore. The way I see it is that I have an extra year to enjoy her, without school pressure of home work. No private school will accept her or put her ahead, public schools go by hiilsborough cut off date. Just enjoy that extra year. I also have an 19 year old son, whos birthday was in nov, I was living in PR and was able to start him in school early, after he turned to high school you knew why they say it is not good to put them ahead. That is when you see your teenage trying to act older, and wanting the same privales that 18 years old have, even though they are 15 or 16. He graduated at 16 from high school, but was still inmature for college. The director from my daughters school told me it was not a good idea either.
But what I can tell you, with my 4 year old, she goes to montessori school, she is already reading, they are not forced to, just the ones who show interest, know their letters and sound, start. So instead of putting my 4 year old in daycare, I selected a montesorri school, so she could have a good foundation, and take advantage of all that she already knew. The montesorri she goes to contnues to 5th grade. I plan to keep her their at least up to first grade, she is too smart and I dont want her to repeat all that she knows in kindergarden again. Try to find a montesorri in your area, you will not regret it.
Good Luck

I would look into a Montessori school. It is AMAZING! My son was in one for VPK.
Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or/and you can check out the website for Coordinated Child Care of Pinellas County. http://www.childcarepinellas.org

Hope this helps. Wish I know about all of this when my little one was going to school.

My daughter's bday is Sept 6. We had the same problem with her missing the Sept 1 deadline (had I known that in 2000, I'd have insisted on inducing labor Aug 29!!

We had always planned on putting the kids in our religion's private school through the FL Pride scholarship (www.flpride.com)

The scholarship doesnt kick in until Kindergarten... so the following won't apply until she's in KG.

We put her in that school in pre-k4 at 3 yrs old (It started in Aug, she turned 4 in Sept.) She went into pre-k5 "on paper" at 4, turned 5 yrs in Sept. She went ingo KG "on paper" at 6 but was actually in 1st grade classes. Halfway through KG, the school "advanced her a grade" on paper. She's always been in with the other kids her age, now it's "on paper" for the state as well.
