Just wondering if anyone had any good suggestions, we always did books for DS's exchanges but DD didn't like that idea.

edited: those are great ideas, I guess maybe i am looking for some way of wrappign those things so they are super cute and appealing. I'd especially love some wrapping ideas that incorporates the gift as the wrapping. like maybe chapstick wrapped in a fuzzy scarf, or something

What can I do next?

Does she know the girl getting her gift or is it a blind exchange where she won't know who's getting whatever she buys or makes?

Girls this age love stuff like cute, fuzzy socks; jewelry of any kind; cool desk stuff like matching pencils/pens/erasers/rulers etc. There are stores called Five Below where everything's $5 or less and that's an option if one is near you.

But it would be great if she could make at least part of the present like a couple of bracelets or necklace or even a wallet out of colorful duct tape -- look online for great ideas for duct tape wallets and handbags. You can buy terrific tape in colors and patterns (zebra stripes to hearts to Hello Kitty).

Or she could buy a couple of pairs of fuzzy socks. Roll them, put them (rolled side up) into a "cupcake holder" made of heavy card stock paper or scrapbooking paper and put a single red mini pompom on top for a "cherry" -- it was a huge hit with girls at my daughter's gift exchange last year and we're doing it again this year. Search online for "sock cupcakes".

Wow. Girls are actually so easy to get gifts for.

Cute hair clips
Bracelets
Gloves/Hats
Cute wallet/purse
Scarf
Socks or slippers

We have a store called Claire's and they have TONS of girly stuff that's not expensive.

Best wishes.

I always pick a few items out of the 1.00$ section in the front of targets and put them in a little bag or bucket.

You could:
-wrap nail polish, nail file, nail polish remover, nail decals in a basket w/
cellophane around it. Add nail stickers
-craft items (beads, wire to string them on, crimping tool, craft glue, foam
cut outs, pom poms) in a little plastic craft box
-cute red & whit striped popcorn box, w/those popcorn pouches you
microwave, mug, hot cocoa, little chocolates
-cute mug (write her name on it, draw some hearts & flowers), add mini
marshmellows, hot cocoa packets, sm bit of chocolate
-inexpensive earrings & bracelet wrapped in a jewelry box you make (decorate a sm wood box)

I agree on claire's or justice. Both are big for girls. Claire's has so much cute stuff they would love.

I like Leigh's ideas, but instead of a red pom pom use chapstick that has a red lid looking likes it sticking up rolled into the sock

What does your daughter want to do? Is she open to ideas or does she already have her own plans?

I'm responding after reading your post about the timeline project. Your daughter may be wanting more independence. As hard as it is for you to let her make these decisions it's important that you do so. Otherwise you're setting yourself up for a difficult time in the years ahead. This is just the beginning of that drive for independence.
