My daughter has eczema and is currently seeking medical advice from her allergist and dermatologist. However, they only prescribe topical steroids to treat. Her biggest break out areas are her hands and feet which become really dry and crack. She has extremely sensitive skin to fragrances and also doesn't like anything on her skin that makes her clothes stick to her. She has food allergies to so we are very careful as to what she eats. So she is a healthy eater. Any lotions or solutions that have worked for you that aren't too sticky or frangrant? Anything non-steroid?
We have tried: wet wraps; herbal suaves, aloe, flax oil in drinks

What can I do next?

Is she on antihistamines? Zyrtec worked wonders for my son. We would do Eucerin (the original - heavy white cream) at night under jammies and Keri during the day. We also like Keri oil in the bath water (the dermatologist says it won't help but can't hurt - we think it helps). Be sure you've banned fragances and dyes throughout the house. Laundry - we use All Baby (Dreft bothered both my kids) or All Free and Clear. No dryer sheets, no fabric softener and do a double rinse. Household cleaning - vinegar, baking soda, and water will do the trick for most everything. No Pledge, etc. - use swiffers or microfiber cloths for dusting. Personal bathing - my 7-yr old is still using Aveeno baby for his hair (everything else causes an outbreak) but has managed to move to Dove Sensitive for his skin. Good luck. There's been previous posts on this, so check the archives too for more advice.

Hi S.. I have a friend whose daughter was having a lot of trouble with eczema and I sell Miessence organic personal care products. She had tried many things and nothing seemed to help so she asked me if I had anything and I told her that I had heard of people with eczema having good results with the sunflower body wash and intense body lotion. She ordered it and told me that after 3 days of use her daughter was much better. She is still using it and her daughter is still having great results. These products are 100% natural with no added synthetics or fragrances. If you would like to check it out my website is www.vickiecolon.mionegroup.com
Good Luck and I hope that you find the right products for your daughter!

We opted to stay away from the topical steroids for our daughter. VANICREAM, in a big tub has worked wonders!! You can get it at Walgreens, or other pharmacies/drugstores. Usually behind the pharm counter but does NOT require a prescription. Also on www.drugstore.com
Aquaphor has also been helpful for really bad cases. Lube them up like a butterball turkey and put jammies on after bath.
Good luck.

I am no expert as my son only had a mild case that responded to Rx topical steroids.(over the counter did not work). That being said, the cream that really worked for us is Cetaphil Cream in the tub. It really helps when he has an outbreak and I use it every day after his bath to keep the eczema at bay. Also, have you tried omega 3 supplements(aka fish oil) Omega 3's are anti-inflammatory and may help. Probiotics could also be helpful, as the digestive system rules the immune system and eczema is an autoimmune problem... They sell many kid friendly versions if your daughter doesn't partake of yogurt or dairy. I hope this isn't all old info for you. Best of luck!
