Does anyone have any suggestions for the treatment of eczema in babies?
My son has had eczema since he was about 4 months old. It seems like it's getting worse even though I have been using all the creams the pediatrician prescribed. Is anyone out there treating this skin condition with something other than steroid creams?

What can I do next?

my son battles with this when the seasons change. Unfortunately the steroid creams are usually the best. But if you can, bath him in something like aveeno ( fragrance free ) and after his bath coat him in eucerin or cetaphil. these both work great. if that doesnt help, perhaps another trip to the pediatrician or a dermotologist is in order. good luck!

Hello L.!
My son started getting exzema at 4 weeks old, our pediatrician prescribed "Elidel", is that what your doctor prescribed for you? If they did, and that's not working, you might want to take him to see a dermatologist, he may need something stronger. If they didn't give you Elidel, ask them for it, we use it on my son and it clears it very quickly!

Good Luck!

I had a bad eczema outbreak after I had my daughter and my dematologist prescribed Dermasmoothe which is a steroid oil instead of a cream. It worked wonders. We recommended it to my husband's aunt for her 10 month old and it cleared up her eczema too. I used creams before with no success so I am telling everyone I can about Dermasmoothe.

Have any of your doctors suggested it is from an allergy? From what I've heard/read, eczema is usually from something ingested. I don't know how much truth there is to it, but my dd only gets breakouts now when she ingests one of her allergen/intolerance foods. She had eczema all her life, but her allergies didn't really surface until we started solids.
In agreement with the PP, I found the vaseline creamy to be the best, and cheapest, product. My dd dermatologist said to use a petroleum based lotion, not oil based (like lubriderm). I also use Aveeno body wash or Dove liquid for her.
If the creams are not working, I would start to look at what he is eating. GL.

We have been battling with eczema in my first child who is 31/2 and my second now is showing signs up it developing. The best remedies that we have found that work and I do mean that we have tried everything from steriods, predisone, to lotions and creams.. BUT AVENO with the dark blue lid and label seems to work for bathing.. It is really thick.. And Vasoline petrolium cream.. It comes it a as we call it upside down tube. We lube everyone up every bath time and sometime in the mornings too. The key is moisture.. If you could as the dermatologist says lubricate them 4-6 times a day you would never see any spots well try telling a 1 and 3 to hold still 4-6 times a day.. we are lucky they tolerate it and not well after baths.. I hope this helps.. I know how much we have had to spend on lotions and cream from the peditricians and dermatologists ALWAYS ALWAYS ask for SAMPLES!! The meds are never cheap and sometimes do not even work at all.. Hope this helps!

I'm not quite sure if my son has as bad of a case, but I've been using Mustela Excema cream. I will check to make sure that is the actual name when he wakes up and email back. My pediatrician never prescribed anything for it. She just informed me that it is what it is and just to keep it lotioned at this point. He has had it since he was probably about 2 months old. It gets worse in the winter because of how dry he gets. He also has really sensitive skin. Another thing that worked is Vaseline Creamy lotion....it came in a round container and you dabbed it on with your fingers, but I can't find it again anywhere. Sometimes before bedtime I put Desitin on the spots and put his PJ's on...it seems to help. Hope this helps!

When my youngest was a baby had eczema and it was pretty bad. The dermetologist I took him to told me to use very mild soap. We used Dove liquid soap. Also mild temp bath and do not bathe longer than about 10 minutes. Hope that helps.
