Ebooks

I have a subscription to Audible books and I love it. You can download it to your computer or phone; you can even download it to the navigation system TomTom. I've downloaded lots of books, have yet to jump in though LOL I'll find the time someday...but also remember, there's nothing that can beat the textile experience of reading a hardcover...I love to curl up with a good book every now and again. Can't say the same about a laptop :) HTH

I use Audible.com, but I've only gotten audio books. It is great, but if you want something to download actual typed words for a Kindle or something like that, I'm not sure they offer that. I download from Audible onto my iPod. I like listening to the audio books when I'm in the car for an extended period of time. If I can hold a Kindle and read that way, I would rather have a real paper book.

Many public libraries now offer eBooks for download for free. Check with your local library to see if that's available and mention that with whatever gift you give him. (keep in mind that reading for long periods on the computer screen can be very tiring for your eyes. The ebook readers like the Kindle are made of a different technology that doesn't cause eye-strain).

I have a Kindle, and I love it. I know that Apple recently came out with a new application for the Kindle on your iPhone or iTouch. I don't know if you specifically have to have the Kindle, but you can download books onto your iPhone or iTouch. Hope this helps!

Ug. I had a real moral delima submitting this post, but then figured that I am not doing anything *wrong* so here goes...

I am just starting a website that focuses on ebooks! There is only one book on there to buy right now, but I am looking for authors who would like to submit their book (for free) and earn royalties. (Think big publishing houses morphed with online publishers... it is really cool!)

Anyway, I was thinking that if he enjoys READING ebooks, he might enjoy WRITING them too! What a great present to be a published author!!

By the way, I know that IPhone or the ITouch has an app for ebooks.

I used Audible.com and it was pretty user friendly.
