depends on the seller. some buy it on clearance and resale it. some have an employee discount at theri store. some times an store will clearance stuff in an lot just to get it out of their store. and someone buys the lot and resales it.

Now if they have a home store they have no overhead rent like a regular store. they buy it at cost and can sell it for less than the stores do cause they have no overhead. There is a lot of ways of doing it. Sometimes it will be stolen. you just can't tell.

One way is that different stores put different things on clearance that may still be full price at your store. So they buy it on clearance and then resell it for less then store price but more than they paid for it.
I know there are other ways too but this is one I know for sure.

I bought a brand new high chair on ebay from a man who buys damaged shipments from warehouses. If a truck has a crate of items and it gets bumped, and the box gets a dent, it sometimes cant be sold for full price in the store, so it is sold cheaper, (at auction at times) and they put the item on ebay for less than store cost. The box we got was crushed on one corner but it was where nothing was inside that part of the box, The high chair was perfect and about $20 less than store cost, after shipping too! Also, I buy clothes on clearance in hopes they will fit my grand daughter at the right season. Sometimes I guess wrong and she doesnt get a chance to wear the item and grows out of it. I had 3 baby dresses I paid about $2 for and she grew out of them before she wore them, so I sold them in a garage sale brand new with tags for $3 each. Not a huge profit, but they had been $10 each to start with and marked down. I could have sold them on ebay for more, but dont sell on there. Also have 6 cute fall/winter outfits in the closet in size 7, hoping she is that size by cold weather..They were about $12 to start with but I got them last fall for $3 each. If she cant wear them this year and I doubt she will be able to next year, I will sell them maybe $6 each. I dont do ebay, but love garage sales. I never buy stuff on purpose to resell, but I know a lot of people do.

the way i look at it is when people work for companies they get an extra 10-20% of everything

I asked a woman on Craigslist the same question. She had a garage stuffed with NIB toys. She said that they came from warehouse auctions. Everything is pennies on the dollar, but you have to buy a huge quantity. She wouldn't give me any more information, I guess she was worried about having competition.

My brother asked this of a woman in Florida who was selling very inexpensive, new furniture. Her deal is that she wanted to open a store, but did not want to pay rent or taxes. She bought her stuff in bulk like a store might do. Her solution to getting rid of it was to sell on CL, require cash and have people meet her at the storage unit she was renting.

I imagine there are lots of scenarios out there. Buying something online and then realizing it wasn't what you thought. I am sure some people sell gifts or duplicate gifts. Stocking up at Thanksgiving sales.

There is a program that my sister was looking into where they get palets of refurbished or new stuff that might have been rejected by the manufacturer for one reason or another. Look at Ross. They don't know what they are getting, that's why it's so cheap. I get more suspicious seeing this stuff on craigslist....

I knew a women who owned a retail business that closed down, so now she sells inventory online.

A lot of these big sellers buy these items wholesale, a lot of them are returns, usually new but with a minor damage like a missing button or mismatched cord color or something.

Auctions, freight damage, they buy wholesale direct from the manufactuer. The list could go on of all the places they could have gotten them from.
For baby items (stroller ect) I buy on ebay. I find a lot of people still have NIB last year's models. They are perfect and 75% off. You just need to know the industry and when they bring out new models and you then can find amazing deals :D

I have sold 'new' stuff before on there. Not that often, but when I did it was because I'd found fantastic deals in real stores. Sometimes meant like bedding or stuff that was marked down 90%. I'd buy several of them to post them on ebay. They were still new because they were from the store.

I buy and sell on Ebay. I have sold new stuff that I had received as a gift and just never got around to using it. But like other people have said, a lot of people buy wholesale and then resell on ebay. I bought my Dyson vacuum on ebay. It was cheaper because it was a refurbished item and they were an actual dealer of them. If you do a little research first, you can actually get some good deals on Ebay but sometimes they aren't always the cheapest so check around other websites online just to be sure.
