Eating Cardboard

My son ate some cardboard. I am wondering what if any ill effects this might have, especially concerned about the inks.

What can I do next?

Good roughage. The amount of paint/ink it would probably take to do any harm would require him to eat a box the size of a moving wardrobe.

I'm not sure what effect it might have, but I know several moms who have told me about their children eating pages out of books. or entire corners (cardboard and all). My son is also 11 months and eats anything he can pick up. He has found empty toilet paper rolls and chewed on them, but usually doesn't actually eat the cardboard.
I'd say if your son doesn't show any unusual effects from it, he's probably fine.

I have to agree with the other responses. One word of caution, however, please don't freak out. When my now 17 year old son was around a year old (and was home alone with dad) he chewed the corner off a postcard which was of the sturdy card stock variety. It got swollen with saliva and got lodged in his airway. Fortunately, my husband remembered the cpr class we had taken, and flipped him over and whacked his back as we were shown. It works! It seems that toddlers are determined to do themselves in. You can't protect them from everything, so arm yourself with the tools you need to save them from themselves. Keep the poison control number handy, take a cpr class, know basic first aid, and you won't be able to beat yourself up with "if only I knew what to do". Enjoy these years, because when they get older and are driving, dating, and I am afraid to think about what else, it's a whole 'nother story. Good Luck!!

My advice, when in doubt call poison control or your local hospital's emergency room, and they will call for your. My grandson ate 2 pieces of rock salt and I called and they told me what to do in minutes.

Hopefully that will be the worst thing he'll put in his mouth - but I doubt it. I have 2 and spend most of my day pulling various paper products from my 10 month old's mouth - which is better than the toilet knob by the floor she has found she can pry off...YUCK! My 3 year old used to eat the dog food - actually sneak it. Anyway, unless you think there was something unusual or he is acting funny it is probably ok. Kids are amazing. Good luck.

No problem...it would take a heck of a lot of cardboard and ink to even give him a belly ach. Best wishes.
