I was just wondering if anyone knew what the temperature is for easy off oven cleaner to ignite. I used it to spot clean my oven, but it didn't work very well and now whenever I turn the oven on it smells like the oven cleaner. I want to run the self cleaning cycle to try and remove it but I'm afraid I'll blow the house up. I've rinsed it a thousand and one times. I'm just short of bringing in the garden hose. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I didn't blow my house up. I let the oven sit on broil for a while and then let the self cleaning begin. It stunk like you could only read about. But now I have a clean oven that I can actually use. Sufficive to say I won't being using easy off anymore! Thanks to everyone for their help.

You made me laugh. I am the same exact way! I am convinced that I will blow up the house. So, I make my husband clean the oven and I usually find a reason to go outside when I see him get the can of Easy Off. But if you ever do hear about some chick blowing up her house while cleaning the oven, it was probably me.

Hope you can find a way to get it clean!

I've heard that you aren't supposed to use an oven cleaner with a self cleaning oven for just that reason, it can cause a fire. You probably want to check with the manufacturer on that before using the self cleaner again.

hello,

I have been there done that! Now i only use the self cleaning cycle, just make sure you take out all the metal trays and your cookware/bakeware in the bottom drawer. Also follow the directions on your manual, it will get hot but it wont blow up the house or anything....and it will be REALLY clean !

I used the self cleaning cycle and almost had to call the fire dept because it got so hot. Scared me to death. My neighbor used her self cleaning cycle and her oven did catch on fire! We both have GE Profile.

I use the Easy Off that is ok to use on self cleaning ovens and I will NEVER turn on the self clean cycle again.....as instructed by the repairman!

I don't know what temp it will ignite, but try rinsing it out one more time using about a cup of vinegar in your bucket of water. Will also help with the smell when you turn on the oven. Hope it helps.

Self-cleaning ovens have very specific instructions NOT to use oven cleaner in them because it damages the surface. Once you've used the oven cleaner in it, I would advise not using the self-cleaning setting. As a former professional house cleaner, there are two things you can use to remove the residual oven cleaner: 1) vinegar and water mixed 1/2 ratio 2) baking soda paste - apply and allow to dry, then wipe clean. Unless you missed science class in school, you know not to mix vinegar and baking soda or you'll have a bubbly mess. If those fail, contact the manufacturer and find a reputable dealer in your area that can resurface the interior of your oven. Good luck!
