EASTER EGGS - Did I Just Get a Bad Box?

Mamas & Papas -

I invited our godD over to dye easter eggs this weekend. Used a box of PAAS egg dye from the drugstore, and was severely dissappointed. The dye time took way longer than expected, and the tablets had barely enough "oomph" to dye the first half dozen. I kept having to "recharge" the mix by adding more vinegar, and even adding some food coloring.

Where did we go wrong, did I just get a bad box?

Thanks,
F. B.

It sounds like you just got a bad box. I would just tell the store and ask for a replacement. Usually the color is super vibrant and you shouldn't have to do what you did. GL

I think you got a bad box. I've always used PAAS and had really super bright, deep colors. You do have to leave them in a bit longer to get those, but it works. I would call the company or take it back to the store.

PAAS has a ton of different varieties now.
I've never had a problem...maybe it was bad.

I've always felt that way about PAAS dye. You think the eggs are going to be vibrant but you only ever get pastels.

It sounds like a bad box. I've never had issues with dye time nor the brightness of colors. They're my go-to brand and I'm always disappointed with other brands. Although one year we did the glitter eggs and the girls LOVED those. They came out amazingly bright/dark and the glitter was pretty. Fun and messy, but pretty. And thankfully nontoxic, because my deviled eggs were sparkly.
