My daughter is 27 months old and is using the potty and telling me if she has gone in her diapers I'm going to buy training pants tonight and only one more package of diapers. My question is what is the earliest you have trained your son/daughter is this too young?

What can I do next?

My daughter is 28 months and fully potty trained. My best advise is to skip the training pants altogether. I was never a believer when people told me that in the past, but after months of training pants and no progress we swiched to underwear exclusively (except at night) about 4 weeks ago. Within 1 week she was potty trained and a week later she was even potty trained at night. She hasn't had an accident in over 2 weeks now.
We made a big deal about how exciting it was to get to wear big girl underwear and let her pick them out herself. She was very excited and never wanted to wear a diaper/pull-up again.

Believe it or not, my oldest daughter was trained at 18 months...Day and night. She decided she wanted to and did it... She was my only child at the timethough so I had time to work with her and she was willing. Didn't work that way with my other kids...They were all 2- 3 before they were trained. If she wants to do this let her... It's easier when it is the childs idea..lol

My girls were potty trained (done completely except for night time) before 19 months and at 22 months. If she seems ready, there is no reason to hold her back! Enjoy!

My daughter started going on the potty at 27 months but wasn't fully potty trained until 2 1/2! I agree with skipping the training pants all together. I tried them with my daughter and I called them undies, until she figured out they were basically diapers and got lazy!! I never forced the issue, just kept mentioning it and you can totally tell when they actually get it! For my daughter, she was scared to poop on the toilet but I introduced sour patch candy during her trying and it was the reinforcement she needed!! Good luck!

I started potty training with my daughter right at 24 months. By 26 or 27 months she was wearing panties. We decided not to do the training pants. She only had a few accidents because she hated the feeling. We just always had a change of clothes and made sure that she went before we left home and took her the moment she had to go. She really only had a handful of accidents. And of those probably 1/3 were my fault, not taking her to the potty in time.

Potty training is one of those much disputed topics...my opinion is that you shopuld take your cues from the child. If you push potty training too early you risk the chance of making the "training" take longer. If you don't take the child's readiness cues and put it off, same thing...it can just make the process longer. All children eventually get potty trained = ) There is no perfect age...sounds like your daughter is ready = )
Lots of luck to you, I reccomend real underwear, pullups are just a diferent type of diaper.

My daughter is 34 months, and just now potty training. We had tried her in underwear before (for 5 full days) and she just didn't realize she was peeing till after she peed. In the 5 days, she peed on the potty twice, and in her underwear every other time (which was a lot!!) If your daughter is showing interest, she isn't too young!

Oh, and I see a lot of people are saying to go straight to underwear, not training pants. I think they mean, don't use pull-ups, as they are basically a diaper without tabs. If you mean the underwear that has some extra absorbancy, we have been using that; it is underwear, just a little thicker. It catches any little 'trickles', but is still underwear.

Our daughter was potty trained shortly after she turned 2 and if I had been able to be home with her, I believe she would have been earlier. She just didn't like to be wet and she liked to use the big girl potty.

We used a book about potty training your child in 3 days when we went on vacation to the Bahamas on her 2nd birthday. When we came back, she was almost totally potty trained.

Go for it girl & good luck!

I have seen kids potty trained at 18 months so this is not too young. You just have to be consistant and don't go back and forth or it will prolong the process. Every child is different and some get it faster than others.

My grandma had some of hers trained by 13 months. She had 8 kids in 9 years and figured out some of their potty schedules as she changed cloth diapers and just put them on the potty about the time they usually went and they potty trained fast.

The age does not matter. It's varies with each child. It depends on when the child has the muscle control. If she is doing it on her own I would encourage it.My daughter went on the potty at 18 mos. for the first time and was fully potty trained by the time she was 21 mos. old.

My oldest daughter was just a little shy of her second birthday when she became potty trained. My other two girls were both right at 2 when we started and were both fully trained within a few weeks. I kept diapers on at night until they were consistantly dry and would take them off first thing in the morning. My oldest was very interested in going potty like her big cousins and my other two girls wanted to be like their sisters, so it wasn't a struggle to get them to do it. It is different for every child, and she will tell you when she is ready. If she is already telling you, then she is ready. I had a sticker chart for each girl that I kept on the fridge. THey got one sticker for peeing in the potty and two for pooping, and they were so excited to show me their pee and get the sticker. I let them pick out one thing at the dollar store for every 15 stickers, or if we didn't make it to the store every 15 stickers, I would get something bigger. You could do whatever you want. They also each picked out a big item, ie a bike that they worked towards. Whenever they were fully trained, I got it for them. The gifts, while pricey, were still worth not having to buy a month's worth of diapers. Be creative, and make it fun, and it won't be long before she'll be fully trained. Just make sure that you have the time to dedicate to the training and that you're not having something stressful happen when you start. (IE: Moving, starting a new school, out of town guests, etc.) I would ask my daughters frequently in the beginning if they had to potty so keep them thinking about it. Don't get mad at the accidents as they'll happen. It's great to do on days you can spend a lot of time outside. Then if you have accidents, there's no mess to clean up!

Good luck!

Dear your daughter is already on the right track. My daughter was done by the time she had her second birthday. Just stop putting her in diapers during the day. Take her about every 30 - 45 minutes. After a couple of days she will just need reminders after naps. She will be telling you anyway after the first time she gets a little wet in her panties. Unless you can't stand the mess don't waste your money on pull-ups. They defeat the purpose of feeling wet. After a few days of dry panties we went straight to dry nights. Make sure you take her potty before bed and as soon as she gets up. I only have two girls the second was just about as easy. She really hated the first couple of accidents and decided the potty chair was much better.

Good Morning S., sounds like your little angel is well on her way to be potty trained. If she tells you when she has gone in her diaper she can tell you when she Has to go. :) Make it a good experience for her though, get her some pretty panties, and let her wear them daily. Ask her to let you know when she needs to go pp. cause we want to keep her big girl panties clean and dry. Use the diapers at nap and bedtime until she stays dry for those times.
Don't forget the happy dance or silly song when she does a good job.

Our eldest son was trained at 19 months, our youngest took me until about your daughters age to get him trained. He hated getting dirty but wetting his pants didn't seem to bother him much.

God Bless

S.,

Having raised 5 kids they will all be different, I have one daughter who by the time she was just over a year old did NOT like a wet diaper and would take it off, so I put her potty chair in the bathroom and by 18 months old she was potty trained! It sounds like she is ready and willing, so no she is not to young! Have fun!!

20 months, I asked her if she wanted to go to the store and buy more diapers or to the mall and buy underwear. She chose underwear, end of story, no mistakes.

The rest of my kids I started to worry they would go to college with diapers on.

I knew a woman who had all of her 7 kids potty trained by the time they were 18 months, girls and boys. If she is showing the signs that she knows when she is wet and is interested, DON'T wait. The older they are, the more of a battle it becomes. I suggest skipping the pull ups except maybe at night. They learn much faster if you put them in underwear and they can feel when they go.

S., I haven't even started trying with my 22 month old daughter, yet because she's not showing any sign of being ready. However, my mom started potty training me when I was 9 months old and by 1 year I was using the toilet just like a big girl. I was an early developer, though. I started walking at about 7 months and could walk independently by 9 months. Like your daughter, I was able to tell Mom when I needed to go to the bathroom. My mother said that I was easier to potty train than the cat. Each child learns at a different rate. If you think your daughter is ready than I agree wholeheartedly. Go for it.

Your daughter is definately not too young. When a child is ready they show signs, which your daughter is definately doing. My 19 month old neice is starting to do the same things so my sister is putting her in panties and she tells her when she has to go most of the time. My youngest daughter was pretty much potty trained at 18 months until I took her on a long car trip and had to put her in diapers for that for convenience, but was completely potty trained by two.

I have four daughters and each one was different, two were potty trained before two, one was 2 and half and the other was about 26 months. We quit diapers cold turkey and I really did not do pull ups. We did the potty training in just one day method and it worked with each one. I just waited until they started telling me when they went and waking up dry to start it. Good Luck!!

Hey there S.! 27months is not too young. My daughter was 20 months old. Fortunately we literally threw away all of the diapers and she refused to wear pull ups. We went straight to panties. She only had a few accidents, thankfully they were during the day. I did however get up a couple of times during the night to take her potty. Now she does it all on her own. She is 5 now. Good luck! Trust me this will be a huge relief.

My daughter started potty training before 18 months. She wanted to be just like her older Bubby, so if she saw him go she would follow suit. She absolutely disliked having a bm in her panties so that was a cinch. She was trained before 2 completely barring a few accidents every now and then. Our son was completely potty trained by 20 months. I babysit other children and some have been early like mine, some late. If your child is telling you, most likely she is ready. I say take advantage of it as soon as that interest is there. If you wait until later it sometimes becomes a habit for the child and is much harder to break.

The owner of my daycare told me that she had her 4 daughters all potty trained by 14 months!! Another caretaker there told me last week she trained hers at 16 months. So since I'm not the super mom they are, I am doing my best right now with my 23 month old. She started around 21-22 months. She is in a daycare group with 2 & 3 yr olds, so she has lots of inspiration being around the older kids. She is doing pretty well actually, and realizes the difference between a diaper and a pull-up and requests the pull-ups. She has been good about telling us and going before she goes to bed and when she wakes up. This AM she was dry, but that is not every day that happens. I set a timer for myself in the evenings to remember each hour to ask her if she needs to go. This is the only part of motherhood I am nervous about, but so far, so good.

sounds like your daughter is ready, my daughter is 29 months and has been potty trained since January. My word of advice is to skip the training pants all together. We went from diapers to undies. it took a few days of letting her run around in her undies and lots of reminders to go potty but it worked really well. She decided on her own shortly after that that she wanted to wear "big girl pants" at night also.

My daughter was right at 26 months when she potty trained. She's now 10. It was really all her wanting to do it and she got to point where she would always tell us and not go in her pull ups. My son was also potty trained around the same age only he had come down with the chicken pox and I put him in regular underwear to keep the diaper area from breaking out any worse. He only wet a couple times before he figured out he didn't like it and never went back to diapers. Guess I got lucky with both. Best of luck to you I hope it goes as easy!
