Hi,
I have a seven-month-old daughter and I would like to have her ears pierced. Would anyone know about a SAFE and CLEAN place that specializes in infants in the greater San Diego area? Price doesn't matter.

What can I do next?

Hi there! Two weeks ago I took my almost 4 month old to the Icing by Claire's in UTC, which was recommended to me by two friends. I went with a good friend and her one year old daughter. They require up to date shots and ask if she had her tetanus, but I told them that babies this young do not get that. I signed all of the forms and within 20 miutes my beautiful little daughter had little earrings in her ears. The manager pierced both girls ears and did a fantastic job. She took her time with the placement which I much appreciated. With the purchase of the earrings I received a large bottle of cleanign solution and my daughter does not even know they are there. However, my firend's one year old daughter did touch hers for a few days but once she realized she was like her mommy and I she was very happy. Let me know if you have any other questions like price or packages. Claire's has a pretty thorough website with all of the information and selections. Good luck and happy piercing:)

I totally agree with the other person who said no. The reason is that it is unnecessary and can lead to infections in some cases...why put an innocent little baby through that for nothing? Let her decide as a teenager if she even wants this done. Also, little babies grow up to be toddlers...toddlers are curious and WILL remove earrings and try to put them in their mouths. That happened to my neighbor...had to bring her child to the ER because she swallowed the earring. Think carefully before you decide. Good luck.

I got my daughters done at 9 weeks and went to the pericing pegoda in the malls .Clair's and a few other places in themall are all clean and use new peircing needles each timeas well as earrings. Or you can ask your ped if they offer it i've heard of some dr. doing it.. As long as you keep the ears clean and twist them every day they'll be fine .And just make sure the guide dots are even so you only have to get it done once...and DON'T listen to those crazy left wing conservatist do what you choose.... (i was called a barbarian becasue i peirced my daughters ear "what ever" ) people have been doing since before egyptian times and they'll keep doing it

I just had my 17 month old and 5 month old daughters ears pierced at Claires. I researched for a month before I did anything. We have Kaiser so I went to an outside dermatologist...they only had the equipment for ages 10 and up. The doctor there said that going to the mall was really no different. I still did not feel too sure, so I contacted an actual piercing place that had rave reviews...and the owner told me they always refer babies to the mall or doctors. My next step was a jeweler. I called a place...they told me there was always someone there who would pierce ears. The day we chose, that person was not there. That's when I decided to go to Claires. I began thinking...ear piercing is what they do all day long...and they've been trained just for that purpose. Long story short...it all went well (minimal tears)...and now my two girls have their ears pierced.

Why pierce your daughter's ears so early? Why not wait until she is old enough to decide for herself that she wants her ears pierced? I got my ears pierced for my 11th birthday. My mother had pierced ears; and I wanted to wear earrings like hers. But she did not want me to get my ears pierced until I was old enough and responsible enough to take care of my ears myself. It was my decision to have my ears pierced and not my mother's. I still love wearing earrings.

Another issue is that the holes in the ears may not stay centered when your daughter grows. By the time she is 10 or 11, any piercings will stay centered in her earlobe.

As parents, there are so many decisions that we must make for our children, since they are not old enough to make them for themselves. But I feel that any non-essential (as in no medical reason for it) alterations to a child's body should be made by the child, since she is the one who will have to live with them.

My daughter was 6 months when I had her ears pierced. We went to Claire's in the mall and had no problems at all. They did a great job and I never had any problems with her ears getting infected. I did clean them every day with the solution I was given. My daughter also never touched them or played with them. A lot of my family did not agree with me having her ears pierced but I really liked them and went ahead with it and am very happy that I did. My daughter is now 2 1/2 years and likes her earrings, she loves to go to the store and pick out new ones once in a while. Good Luck

Hi N. -- call your pediatrician to see if they do ear piercing in their office. I had my daughter's ears pierced in her pediatrician's office and had no problems or worries. Good luck!
