Dyson Vacuum Cleaner??

Okay. I just read a request for a good vacuum cleaner and looked at the many responses suggesting a Dyson. My question is.. Does it work great on wood floors as well? I have a Basset Hound dog and three boys including my husband, and I just can't keep my wood floors cleaned. The Hoover I have does not do a good job unless I use the hand tube but it is tiring and scratches my floors. Also, how many hundreds (cost) are you ladies talking about? And what is the best place to buy one? Thanks a lot, y'all!

What can I do next?

I have the purple Dyson Pet, because we used to have a indoor bulldog. I love it! It's the bset vacuum cleaner I have ever owned. I use it on my tile, carpet, take it outside and vacuum our rugs, vacuum our cars too. I don't have wood floors in this house, but I did in the other and it worked just fine. We purchased our Dyson at Home Depot or Lowes. I can't remember which one.

i have the purple dyson animal because of the labs i have and even though they are outside dogs we have wood floor in the living room and i guess the dog hair blows in somehow! but yes it does pretty good on the wood but i still do the swiffer dry to pick up thing missed by the vacuum. its awsome on the carpet just make sure you dont leave it in the wrong mode. (2 modes carpet and flooring) once i vacuumed in flooring and wondered why it wasnt picking anything up. oh but yes dyson is very pricey. i used a 20% off and went to bed bath and beyond. my friend has had hers for 8 yrs and swears by it. mine is 2 yrs old and the suction is great.

I had a Dyson, and it work great for our carpet floors but we changed all the floors to hardwood floors and it didn't work as good. We looked around and found that the Kirby works the best on everything. We have 8 dogs, and 3 children and it picks up everything. It has a hose and a attachment that picks up everything off the wood floors, I will never change my Kirby for anything else. You will not get away from the scratches on the floors from the dogs even if ou go and buy the most expensive floors. The only thing you can get is a certain type of top layer that is for dogs but it will also still scratch. But I'm keeping my dogs and I'll just keep cleaning and shining my floors, they look fine. I hope this helps.

Paty,

I have a Kenmore canister and I love it. But for quick pickup, on my wooden floor, I highly recommend the Swiffer Floor Vac. It is so light, quick, quite powerful, and inexpensive. You can get it for under $30 at Target and if you go to Swiffer's web site you can get a coupon for $5 off. It is cordless, moves into tight spaces and under cabinets alot easier than a standard vacuum. However, if you do buy it, I would recommend that you keep the reciept for the first couple of months. I've had to go through 2 b4 I found the one that had the right amount of power. My sil was the one that introduced me to it and hers had a lot of power. When I bought one myself it did not have as much. Make sure you charge it up completely b4 you use it. And I too have a dog that sheds like no tomorrow. But this thing picks it up so good. Then it actually pretty shocking how dirty your floors can be. I buy the swiffer sheets from costco makes the price much better. I've recommended it to so many happy friends.

I bought my Dyson on woot.com for $250. You have to check that website everyday since it is a one item per day deal. But, I got it for about half the price of a regular one. Not sure how it will do on wood floors since I don't have them in my house. But I do love my Dyson.
