Hello Everyone! I am new to this message board and was wondering if anyone knows of a dyslexic tutor in fort worth? I am having major problems with the ISD my son attends.

Thank you!

We have The Reading Clinic who can work wonders with Dyslexic kids in San Francisco Bay Area with locations in Saratoga, San Mateo, Los Altos, Fremont, and Palo Alto. They do offer some remote instruction which may be applicable.

We have had great teachers in the Frisco schools. My son goes to dyslexia class one hour every morning 4 days a week. They use the Scottish Rite system. This is his 2nd year(4th grade) and he is doing really well. The only issue I've had is the school acts like 2 years is enough help for him. Dyslexia does not just go away as we know. You are in control of your child and once they have been diagnosed by the district state law says they have to give accomodations needed for as long as they're needed all the way up through college. The school will make you feel like they decide all that, but it is what you choose. Hope this helps.

Im not from Texas but wanted to share what I have found helpful. I have two children with dyslexia. My first had no tutoring and my second went through the Susan Barton program. Its based off the orton gillingham approach. My second child did unbelievable with this program. I think this saved him from the problems my first child has had.
Hopefully you have heard of this but if not I really hope you will look into it. Im a firm supporter now. Good luck in your search.

I would recommend Frisco but not Plano I'm sorry to say. We did not have a positive experience there at all. We received push back when we requested testing for our son. After 3 years of expensive tutors and no support from the school regarding the requested testing, we opted to pay for private testing. The results confirmed dyslexia. We found that only certain schools in the district employed dyslexia trained teachers and all of them were dual- certified. Most were special ed teachers. Some schools utilize different programs, just depending on whatever program the teacher they hire has training in. The district is not offering the teachers the opportunity to train, nor have they adopted a program. It is inconsistent at best. We moved before the school year ended during my sons 5th grade year. We've been very pleased with Frisco.

L., I'm a certified dyslexia therapist and I work privately with students from many school districts. The best programs are multi-sensory, such as an Orton-Gillingham approach. Many school districts use Take Flight (Scottish Rite's newest program). I know that Allen ISD uses Take Flight. I'd stay clear of Richardson ISD- they use DVDs, not mutli-sensory at all! Plano nor McKinney have certified academic language therapists on staff (to be the best of my knowledge). Feel free to ask me any other questions and good luck!

I don't know, but I would suggest you choose a school with smaller classrooms (if there is such a thing) and consider having your child tutored professionally away from school. Dyslexia is a broad diagnosis that can mean a lot of different things. There are magnet schools. I would check those out as they may be a better option. How old is your child? I have heard good things about Richardson High School and teaching the individual child.
