Dyshidrotic Eczema

I was wondering if any one else has heard of or been diagnosed with dyshidrotic eczema. A couple days ago my 16 month old daughter developed swollen hands with blisters all over them. We have had several doctor appointments with pediatrician and dermatologists. Today, the dermatologist feels that it might be dyshidrotic eczema and so I was just wondering if anyone can give me any insight.

What can I do next?

I have this. In the summer time my hands will break out with these small blisters that have clear fluid in them. If the blisters break open then my skin will dry out and crack terribly. It general only happens in really warm weather for me. I always thought it was due to too much moisture but I've since learned it's the opposite problem. My hands are too dry apparantly so they recommended using lotion. In general, I hate lotion because I hate having greasy hands, but I found somehting I like that isn't greasy so I use that. Steroids never did much for me. I've also heard it called pompholyx.

I have eczema, but not dyshidrotic eczema. I'm sure you've been doing internet research, but I checked out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyshidrosis and noticed that hand sanitizer, detergents, soaps, etc could make it more irritated. Also it saysnot to try to cover the sores with bandages/bad aids as it needs to dry in the air.....
Sorry, no real information other than that to share. Good luck to you and your daughter.

So sorry to hear about this. I have never heard of those symptoms before. I know how scary and downright incovenient mystery illnesses like that can be. You don't sound certain of the diagnosis but at least it's a place to start. I'm sure you are probably wading through tons of info on the internet, just remember not all the info out there is reputable nor does it all apply specifially to your daughters case.
I hope she is feeling better and symptom free soon.

My daughter and nephew have eczema. They both have seen the dermatologist a childrens hospital. We use a product from wal mart called auquaphor. It is miracle in a bottle. After your child gets a bath or shower you would put this on thick. Both my daughter and my nephew have food allergies also. Their eczema tends break out after they have eaten their allergen. You may want to keep a food journal and see if it could be related in that way. Good luck to you and happy holidays

My healthcare provider treats these kind of conditions. However, she treats internally rather than topically, trying to get to the root of the cause and fixing it that way. She is VERY good at what she does and specializes in children. For more info, her website is www.holisticfamilyhealthcarepc.com You can even email her questions ahead of time and have follow ups via email or phone. hope this helps!!

My daughter gets this form of eczema on her feet. It has been very irritating for her. It seems to get worse in the winter time when the weather is so dry. We use Eucerin cream on it, and it helps immensely. There's also a product out there called Domesboro that you could get at Rite Aid or CVS. It's a powder that you mix with water, and for your daughter's age, you'd soak a washcloth in it and then hold it on her hands. It is extremely soothing. Burt's Bees makes a moisturizer that helps a little, also, but nowhere near as much as the Eucerin. Wal-Mart's brand of the Eucerin works just as well as the name brand, and is 75% less. Make sure it's the form in the big tub, not a pump bottle.
HTH, and if I can help further, feel free to contact me!
Good luck, I know it's no fun for her, or you.
