Due Any Second - Help Name This Baby Girl!

I am due with our second girl any time and we cannot decide on names! Our last name is hyphenated (2 syllables each ending in "n" but easy to say) so we don't want anything too difficult to pronounce or too long. We are pretty set on a one syllable middle name but are trying to avoid AJ and TJ type nicknames.

These are our favorites - do you know anyone who has these names and loves (or hates) it? Any terrible nicknames we aren't thinking of? Is Kennedy too trendy? Does Allie sound like too much of a nickname?

Kennedy Grace
Kendall Jane
Keely Mae (or Jane)
Allie Grace
Teagan (Tee-gan) Grace

If you hate them all, please don't respond. We get enough of that from family!
Thank you!

My opinion...I love Kendall Jane. It's pretty and simple. I think Keely and Teagan are cute but sound like they might sound silly as they get older. I like Kennedy and Grace but they are so popular right now (I know a couple of each)

I love Kennedy and Kendall. Grace is a great name. These 3 are great as kid names and will be good names when she is an adult. I actually considered Kennedy for my daughter. Hubby shot me down lol

Not crazy about Mae or Jane at all. Know a little girl named Keely and she's a pita so I'm not crazy about that name lol!

Congratulations!

I like Teagan Grace, but I prefer the spelling Tiegan, something that begins with "tea" sounds like, well, tea.

Kennedy sounds too contrived, Kendall is too common, as is Keely, Allie is cute but probably also overused, I love Grace, and Tiegan is the only one I haven't heard a million times already.

I would avoid all the names beginning with "K". I work at a school and there are so many Kaitlyn, Kyla, Kylee, Kaleighas, etc. Your daughter would obviously be at the young end of the trend.

I love Teagan. I've only seen one of those but maybe its more popular with babies right now. The kids do call her Tea but its unique and it fits her.

I also like Allie but I might consider making her legal name something like Allison or Alexa then calling her Allie. That way, if she ever lands in a career where she wants a formal sounding name, she can go back to her birth name. I have a relative in banking named Cindy (not Cynthia) and she wished she could use Cynthia at work and Cindy at home.

I would also suggest discussing the names with your nurses in Labor & Delivery. They see all the names coming through. Years ago, my friend delivered "Emily". One nurse said, "Just so you know, we've had 3 Emilys this week alone". My friend stuck with Emily and the nurse was right. Most of her classes have at least one other Emily in them.

Congratulations on your baby!

I don't love trendy names or ones that are hard to spell or pronounce. So, of your choices, I like Allie the best. But I'd say try to find a longer proper name and then just call her Allie. I think it's always nice to have options. I've known an Allison, Alicia, and Alexandra all go by Allie. I also like Alice or Alyssa.

I've worked with a Keely. While she always conducted herself very professionally, I have to say that I think the name was an obstacle in getting people to take her seriously until they got to know her. And she was constantly being called "Kelly."

I like all your middle name possibilities.

You have a long last name, so you're right to make the other names short and simple. Allie is usually a nickname for Alice or Alexandra (so you can decide if you want to name her one of those and use Allie as her nickname). Allie Grace sounds good spoken out loud ("Allie Grace, do I have to come up there?"), and it could look good - not childish - on her graduate school diploma.

I like Kendall and Kennedy. I read that dome people call the names trendy, but I don't know any. I think sometimes trendy is very regional even down to neighborhoods! I think Keely is more trendy. So many, Kayla, kaleigh, makayla, keagan, kaden names. They all sort of run together. Plus every time I hear it I think of a cocktail or keegals. I have no idea why. Allie is cute, but I prefer Allison. Teagan I don't care for, but it could grow on me.

I always do the Supreame Court Justice test. You know, "All rise for the Honorable (Insert name here). It I can't say it without laughing or rolling my eyes, it's out!

Just a suggestion. We have a friend who has a daughter named Keely. They regret it. People try to give her nicknames, and people call her Key and Keel. Her daughter and them hate it, and they are always correcting people. People will ALWAYS try to shorten names.

My personal favorite is Teagan.

I think Allie does sound like a nickname. She'll likely be asked what it's short for her whole life.

With Teagan, you spelling it here hints at the problem with it. It's not an unheard of name, but she might need to spell or pronounce it a lot.

I've only known two Kennedy's and both are teenagers+. They both seemed okay with it. I've known a couple Kendall's and they were okay with their names. I don't remember them loving it. I know Grace is on the trendy side right now so it's a lovely middle name, but maybe common for a first name.

One thing we considered was how the name would sound on our kid as an adult (and old lady) and if they wanted to use it professionally. Ours have formal names for then if they want and nicknames while they're little but are still appropriate as adults.

I don't care for Kennedy or Kendall because they are shortened to Ken.

Allie Grace is adorable. My fav. Unlike what others said, I wouldn't give her a longer name just to shorten it anyways. We did that for one of my kids and it is annoying. I wish we'd just left it as the name we wanted to call him.

Keely is interesting and I think I like it. Just unique.

Not a fan of Teagan. Just don't like how it sounds.

Hate is a strong word.
I don't love any of them (simply not my style).
I do love your middle names....
So from the list I would pick Allie.

I have a cousin named Kendall, and I always think Ken doll when I hear it, you know Barbie's BF.
My DD loves the name Allie-she is Curious George's friend on the PBS show.

HTH! Congrats!!!

I like Keely and Allie. I named my second daughter Maggie. Not Margaret, not Magda. Maggie. A few people have said it is a nickname but I ignore them. There is no hard rule that says you need to name your child a long version of a name. I think Kennedy and Kendall and fairly trendy at present. Good luck choosing!

I like Kendall but I used to work in an elementary school, and there are soo many kids these days with similar names and with the 'k's. Like Kalyn, katrina, Kaylie, etc. I dont know, it depends on how you feel about names. For my kids, they have names that are uncommon but not totally unheard of or hard to pronounce. I really like Teagan too. I knew a Teagan AND a Keegan in HS and I thought the names suited them well and always liked the names. And recently met an older (70-80 year old) woman whose legal name was Allie Dee xxxxxxx and I really thought it was cool that was actually her name, not a shortened version of Allison or Alyssa, etc. Anyway hope it helps. And Congratulations on your baby!

Yes Allie sounds too nickname-ish, same with Keely. Think of her college/job applications. Also think of her job title, Dr. Teagan Grace Jones, has nice ring to it.
