Wow! I cannot believe how many kids have excema! My children both have it as well - I guess mine aren't the only ones!! My dr. recommends Eucerin like the other moms said, but also says Cortozone (sp?) cream as well. Its an over-the-counter cream. If it still doesn't go away, the dr. can prescribe a stronger cream. But I find the Eucerin and cortozone to work very well as long as I am consistent with it.
Also - warm weather seems to increase the excema.

Use Aveeno for excema baby formula, it is amazing. Also try using aveeno baby wash too, there is a lotion style one that's really nice. You will see a change almost immediately. I have a 7 1/2 month old little girl too and have had the same problem with her-no flakes just dry, rough patches. Whenever I put some of the lotion on her (espescially her cheeks-I think from food and water getting on her face) it goes away pretty quickly. Good luck!

she might have exzema. The reason why i say this is because my son and my youngest have exzema and there skin is really dry and skin is not soft so you can lotion and lotion but its just the weather and how there body reacts to the weather. you might want to ask your doctor about it.
hope this helps

Hi L.! My daughter, who will be 2 in September has exsema, which looks and feels like what you are describing. Her doctor has always told me that lotions you pump out of a bottle is no good for her skin, but lotions you scoop are great. What I would recommend trying is Eucerin Cream, or any store brand that compares. I was worried, when I first started using it becuase it was so heavy, but w/in a few days the dry patches were getting much smoother and smaller and after a while they were gone. I only used it until the skin was soft, and now if I notice she is getting dry again, I will put it on for a few days and it is gone again.

When I am not using the Eucerin I use the Johnon's Naturals - it doesn't have all the smelly stuff that is in every other lotion today!!!

Another suggestion is bathing every-other day. Every day is too much for my daughter's skin. That has also helped a ton!

I hope this helps! Good luck!

My daughter had the same problem and it ended up actually being the lotion and soap I used on her. SHe developed a type of allergy to it. So I have never been able to find a lotion to use on her but my doctor had recommended Eucerin cream and I have to wash her with a Dove White Bar because even the sensitve baby wash was to much for her.

She could have ezcema. If it isn't too bad, you can control it at home with the help of her doctor. Two of my kids have it really bad, and with the help of their doctor, we can keep it pretty well under control. Good luck.

L.,
Try using hair conditioner... as much of a "hypoallergenic" as possible.... my daughter (now 17) just decided to get irritated by things used... it is a pain, but will work... most products that are hypoallergenic are made by almay... yes more expensive, but work, all the same...

Good Luck

That could be ezema, you could research it on the internet. All my kids get it mostly in the winter time when the air is more dry. But what I do most of the time is after they have a bath apply lotion on right away while the skin is still wet.

My son is 4 1/2 years old and has had "cat tongue" skin his whole life. Thank goodness it doens't itch. However, I would suggest only bathing every other day at the most and then head to toe using Shea Butter. Do not buy scented...this just add alchol to the lotion with will dry it out. I know that Bath & Body Works store carry 100% Shea Butter, its part of their "Spa" products - this is where i get mine and it naturally smells like cookies...so my son looks for to getting the "cookie lotion" after baths. Hope this helps.

My daughter, now 5, has that too. My daughter has psoriasis. A wonderful product is just plain glycerin. you can find it at any drug store for just a few dollars. Put it on when the skin is still moist and any time during the day you think about it and it works wonders! (Works great on moms dry heels and elbows too!) :)

My daughter has had excema for a little over a year now and the thing i have found that works great for me is a line called Arbonne Baby Care. I love it. I actually get the arbonne Baby care lotion, and the arbonne baby care Hair & body wash but i dont use it on her hair. I only give her a bath every other day and then i put the lotion on her right when she gets out of the bath. I am a representative for arbonne so i can get the product at a discount price, so if you would like to try it let me know and i would be happy to order it for you. I have also seen it on ebay for sale.

I tried many other things and nothing worked as well as this. The worst thing I ever tried it that Eucerin Lotion my daughter cried and screamed because she said it was burning. And I even took her to the doctor and got her perscription cream and it didn't work as well as the arbonne.

I have always used Aveeno brand lotion on my daughter when this happens. Her pediatrician recommends it. I love it because it is scent-free, so it is less likely to irritate her skin. My daughter is 2 and we have had to change some of her regular lotions as she got older and her skin changed. But, I have always used Aveeno when her skin gets really dry. Good Luck!

My little guy has dry rough skin all over every now and then. Normally I just use Johnson's baby lotion but when it gets bad I coat him with Aquaphor for a few days and it softens him up. Aquaphor is a clear thick cream from the makers of Eucerin and it really works well. Hope this helps.

My son has eczema. It feels like a cat's tongue and sometimes you can't even see it. I would talk to your pediatrician because you can get prescription lotions with anti-itch medicine in it.

My daughter now 4 has had something very similar and in reading the other comments, there are several similarities. After a lot of trial and error, Aveeno Moisturizing lotion has been our friend. It does seem to be worse in the winter time and not much of problem in the summer. Good luck

Try a hypoallergenic, fragrance free lotion. It wont irritate the skin so much. Tip:Go to a store that will have a big selection of lotions, kinda hard to find a lotion both HA and frag-free, there is a Baby Soft brand though.
