Dry Erase Marker Stains

My 20 month old got into a dry erase coloring/activity book that belongs to my oldest daughter, and her clothes have dry erase marker all over them. I didn't think it would be a big deal because I thought the stains would come right out in the wash. But, they haven't. I even treated the stains first with detergent. Now, they're soaking in oxy-clean which I'm hoping will work. Has anyone else had this problem before and have any suggestions on how to get the stains out?

That happened to us a few weeks ago, and it came right out with some rubbing alcohol, but that was before it went into the laundry. It may be worth a try. Good luck!

I had that happen once, someone told me to use the dry eraser pen to get it out...put it on the same spot and then use some soapy water to get it out. Putting it back on reactivates it and pulls it out with the clenaer.

Thanks for asking! I just had the same problem a couple days ago. Now I just realized that my son got the curtains too.

murphys oil soap. scrape with a spoon. Should be gone with about 10 min of effort.

Try Hairspray. sometimes it helps lift it out. But I also soak over night in oxyclean. Do not put it in the dryer, that will set it in. keep trying.

Is it not the most ironic thing that they don't come out of clothing? I thought the same thing and washed a once-worn Ralph Lauren shirt so many times to try to save it. I think it's actually HARDER to get out than if it were a Sharpie!!

I will try to the oxy clean too but Shout, Spray-n-Wash, and any combo did not work.

Definitely stay away from the dryer until you get success, and good luck!

I used a product called Amodex to get black Sharpie out of our couch when our son colored on it. I panicked and Googled how to get it out. That came out. I bought a small bottle at Office Max in Oswego...it was located near the checkout lane with all the candy/gum. I think it was about 5 dollars.

My 2 year old daughter did that a few weeks ago. I was surprised that it didn't come out in the wash. My mom soaked it in milk...then rubbed it in really good...then washed it and it came out! She said when she was little they didn't have any stain removers...her mom used milk. Give it a try.

Hate to say it but my daughter did that to my son's shirt and ruined the shirt. If you figure it out please let me know. I work in a school and am around dry erease markers all the time.

Oxyclean is great for organic stains, but not so much on ink or grease stains. One trick with Oxyclean (because I am a big fan of it) is to use the spray kind, saturate the stain and let it dry, then launder. That method has yet to fail for me. However, thankfully I haven't needed to try it on ink yet! Hairspray usually works on ink - again, saturate the stain and let it dry, then launder. The hairspray usually bonds with the ink and breaks it up. Good luck with it!
