I have an infant seat and two bases, which I am pretty sure are now considered expired since we bought them for my now 5-year-old. Does anyone know of a local drop-off location for expired seats, preferably where the seats are disassembled and recycled? I hate the idea of them just going into a landfill. Thanks.
you can probably take them to a fire department that does carseat checks and stuff and see if they know where you can recycle them. but i would check the company that makes them and see if they have been recalled and if not they are probably stll good as the style has not really changed much
I was able to donate mine to our local hospital for their baby safety classes.
I just saw an ad today on Craigslist from a local teacher who was looking for infant carseats for their "baby think it over" program. Why don't you call your local high schools?
I'm anxious to see the responses you get. I've been wrestling with whether or not it's appropriate to donate ours anywhere. Is a quality expired seat better than no seat? Ours is in great condition and it seems a shame to throw it away.

Carseats actually have an expiration date. The plastic and impact ability is compromised after that date. Donation for reuse is not recommended after that date. What is recommended is to recycle them at your local recycling center where they accept High density rigid plastic ...like Little tikes toys, and plastic rakes and garden hose reels...there is a market for them in the reycling industry...do check local recycling centers in your area, that's the best solution!
Babies R Us is doing a trade in event right now. You bring in your old baby equipment, they give you 25% off new equipment. Not sure if they recycle them. I'm actually a car seat tech and I've never heard of a recycling program for seats...they are made of really hard plastic, not sure if it is possible? You can look around on the www.safekids.org website, maybe they have something listed there?
