Drooly Mcgee

Little Leah is 6 and a half weeks old and she is drooling so much lately. Is this normal for her age? I thought drooling came with teething? She just saw a therapist to help correct her suck, she has weak cheeks and lips. Could this be a side effect of that? Like she cant control those muscles to keep the saliva in? She also seems really congested lately too. Poor little Leah, its always something :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

She is still drooling up a storm. Thanks everyone! Im just glad its something normal, you never know! I did get a humidifyer that seems to help her congegstion. The first one I had for her wasnt working, it was some cold air one, but it was noisy and didnt make any difference. But, I got one by Vicks (its only 10 bucks!) and its a little different because you have to add salt, but we both woke up without our congestion...We are still working on her sucking, the exersizes arent helping yet...but the colic calm tablets we just tried put her right to sleep. We'll see if she wakes up happy...that would be a blessing! Thanks to everyone!

K.....congrats on your little one. My youngest daughter has poor muscle tone in her face. She drooled a lot when she was little. We worked with a therapist to help stimulate the muscles in her face. It is normal for a baby with poor muscle tone to drool. Keep working with the therapist and do her facial exercises.

Do not worry!! Some babies just drool a lot, some don't...

My middle daughter was a major drooler also! And she didn't have poor muscle control or anything like that - she was just drooly!

The weak cheeks & lips probably do have something to do with the guantity of drool that's escaping but drool itself is perfectly normal. I just wanted to give you one helpful tip that will help prevent the inevitable chin rash that they usually get from all that moisture sitting in the crease of their chin...put Aquaphor on her chin and it helps to protect the skin from all that irritating extra moisture. It's the only thing that helped my son when he was extra-drooly. Good luck and congrats on the new baby!!!

Congrats on your baby girl! My son is also a "drooly mcgee" he has been drooling since about 2 months and is still going strong at 4 months :) My advice keep a bib on her so you don't have to chage outfits all the time, it works for me!

Congrats on your little girl!!! My daughter had the same problem when she was that age (she is 7 months now), she also stuck out her tongue a lot and was congested. We never took her to a therapist, her doctor always said the congestion was due to reflux and the saliva was normal. Now she just drools because she is teething. She stopped drooling for a while when she was 2 months. I don't think there is anything to worry about.
