Drool Rash - Antioch,CA

My 4.5 month old has a rash around his mouth from drool, etc. I have been observing it since it started a couple of weeks ago. At one point it looked like it was getting better, but know it just seems the same or worse (it is not a horrible rash, just pink bumps, some larger than others). I have tried Weleda calendula baby cream, California Baby Calendula Cream and I have also tried leaving it alone....also keep it as dry as possible. I am wondering if you have any suggestions, or should I just take hime to the doctor. Thank you so much!!!!

What can I do next?

What about a bit of nipple cream for breastfeeding mommies? It is non toxic and doesnt need to be washed off before the baby breastfeeds. It is very sticky and you only need the tinniest amount but it works fantastic as a water repellant and should keep his mouth safe from constant wettness.
Good Luck

My 2 year old is cutting some molars, and his cheeks and chin are horrible! Last night we put Gold Bond lotion on him, and this morning it was like a miracle took place overnight! We also put some more on him this morning. We'll keep chasing him with that bottle until he's better... and then chase him some more just for good measure!

I started to use Aquaphor but then got nervous about him getting it in his mouth, so I began to use the left over nipple cream I had from BFing. It worked wonders and is safe for him to ingest.

Like the mom who mentioned the nipple cream, get some lanolin (the ointment that is in most nipple creams). It is a water barrier, completely natural and harmless.
Or you could just leave it alone, and try to keep it dry. It is probably bothering you more than it is him.

Aquaphor is amazing. It heals everything so quickly. The consistancy is pretty thick and greasy, which I don't really like, so I use it sparingly and a night.

I've always used Boudreaux's Baby Kisses for that.
You could also check with your doctor to make sure that is the cause of the rash.
It could also be a lil allergy.

You just have to wait it out.
That's what our doctor told us when DS had one. You can try barriers, but given the location, it's next to impossible.

Hi,

Put some vaseline on it to create a barrier...the drool is irritating it. this works awesome.

100% cotton bibs - changed often 'cuz it will spread to the chin & neck and it's still a bit too cold for Munchkin to have a wet shirt - AND 100% cocoa butter - the thick kind - or even good old olive oil applied often - like with each diaper change.
The good news is - this phase passes fairly fast. I've even used old school Chapstick when I forgot to bring the cream in the diaper bag. ;)

My doc told me to use Triple Antibiodic Neosporin to create a miosture barrier but also to ward away any infection. Wet irritated skin = bacteria! Dont worry, it will pass : - )
