Hello Mama's. I have an upcoming wedding to go to and would like to know if you think it's appropriate to wear dress pants and a nice shirt to a 2:00 wedding instead of a dress? Thank you in advance.

What can I do next?

I would say that it should depend on the venue of the wedding reception. At a firehall or any similar place, then fine to wear pants. At a fancier place I would not.

i always wear dress pants and a nice shirt. No one will be looking at you, only the bride, unless you dress really crazy.

I do sometimes. It depends on my mood. I am not a big fan of dresses. Plus, I am always cold! A nice pair of dress pants and a nice dress shirt would be just fine!

If the wedding is in a church I would only ever wear a dress unless they were very casual clothing to their services. If it is in the park or other outdoor venue then a more casual outfit is acceptable too.

But the real question is what type of ceremony is it. Daytime can mean from very casual to still very formal. My wedding was at 1pm too but with tux's (hubby wore his with tails), long train, lots of pomp and circumstance. If it's that formal I don't think pants are okay.

You don't want to look out of place but you also want to be comfortable.

I have an acquaintance who lost her husband this past Fall and at the funeral she wore a pair of slacks and an old looking dressy shirt, she looked so out of place with everyone in black wearing dresses and suits. I felt bad for her but she just wanted it to be over and didn't care what she had on.

It is sad to say but people notice things like this whether we want them to or not. I always notice shoes. I could care less what people wear and often don't remember but I can just about tell you who wore what shoes when and where. Silly little things we notice.

Ask someone who is familiar with the ceremony and what the settings is and they should be able to tell you if pants would look out of place or okay.

Acceptable..............yes

Would I do it.........no, that's not me.

However, that does not mean it is wrong. Be comfortable in your own skin!

Perfectly fine. You could wear just about anything I'm sure that is not completely formal (unless you know it is a really formal wedding/reception), but slacks are fine. I sometimes feel much dressier in slacks, heels, and a nice top anyway. =)

I think that you will find a lot of people in dress pants and a nice shirt - especially for winter weddings! It's too cold to wear a dress!!

Yes. I never wear dresses. I hate dresses :) I have never had anybody say anything about my attire at a wedding. As long as you look nice, that's all that matters.

Definitely alright to wear dress pants to a wedding. I usually do, hardly ever wear a dress. Mainly because I would have to buy a new dress that I would probably only wear once or twice, where I can get many uses out of a pair of dress pants, and a nice shirt can even be paired with nice jeans for a more casual night out. I'm very practical about stuff like that. As long as you look nice and are comfortable you'll be fine.

Yes. Throw in some sparkly jewelry and strappy heels if you think you need to dress it up a bit.
