I still use dreft with my 3 year old twins. One of the twins has exzema due to food allergies. So i still wash their clothes in dreft.

I never washed my child's clothes in Dreft. I always used Biokleen Laundry Powder on HOT. It worked for me and is environmentally friendly while not being stinky like most detergents.

With my son it was well over a year, but looking back I could have probably stopped long before. Once my husband's clothes stopped breaking out his face I chould have switched him to the family detergent. With my daughter (10 months this week) I only used Dreft until 6 months. She doesn't have as sensitive skin.

I never used Dreft, except for the pretreating spray. I have a high efficiency washer that requires an HE detergent. There is no such thing in Dreft. You don't have to use that unless your baby has some sort of skin condition, and even then you can just use the FREE version of any other hihg-quality detergent like Tide. I have always used regular scented HE detergent.

I stopped using Dreft at 10 or 11 months. I switched to purex free. It is free of all dyes and perfumes and is clear. If you are looking for something cheaper they also sell All for babies (I think it is All) it is just like dreft only cheaper.

S. - Congrats on your little one. I have a 3 yr old son and a 10 month old daughter. I used dreft up till about 3-4 months with both kids)and then started throwing some of their clothes is w/ mine. I usually use tide w/ downy and when I saw that they weren't effected by it.. i stopped using dreft completely. It's all trial and error. I hope things work out the best for you.

I stopped using it when my daughter was a little over a year. I just started throwing a few of her things in our wash to see if it had any effect on her skin. I have kind of sensitive skin myself, so I use Purex powder and downy softener. She didn't have a reaction so I just started washing all of her clothes/bedding with the purex too.

I stopped using Dreft around 5 months and switched to Tide Free. It is a 'sensitive skin' formula, and comes in a white bottle with a green cap. We've had no problems with it and it isn't a ripoff like Dreft. I will probably start using regular Tide when my boy turns 1.

I never actually watched my child's clothes in dreft in the first place because my washer allows me to do an extra rinse and my pedia said that would be fine. I've heard that most kids can handle regular detergent after 6 months. I would wash one garment then test it on your child. If he has a reaction then you know he's not ready yet. That's what one of my friends did and she said her son was fine.

I used it for about 6 months, just to be safe. Once I realized that she was constantly rubbing on my clothes and my blankets/pillows, I decided to give it a try. I switched to the same soap we were using (Tide), and she was just fine. Maybe give it a try, like with a towel or a blanket, if you don't notice a reaction, it should be just fine to wash with regular detergent. If not, you could always just switch your family detergent to a dye free (like Tide Free). I am almost positive it is the same price. Hope that helps and good luck.

Hi S....
I am a mom of a 7 month old baby girl...I have never washed Olivia's clothes in Dreft...I was actually told that many babies have an allergy to it...I use the All free & clear (no scent or dye) and have since she was born (and even beofe that with my & my husband's laundry)...Olivia has pretty fair and sensitive skin and she has never had a rash...We do still wash her clothing separately from ours...We don't use fabric softener, but i have been told that the Downy free & clear is great.

Hi S.,
Actually I never used it but a friend of mine stopped using it after her child turned one. She still washes her daughters clothes separately from everyone else's. I just never saw what the big rave was for Dreft. I am more into "natural" products.

I washed my daughters clothes in it until she was almost 17 months old (when I had my son). Then I figured out that I held them in my clothes and laid with them in my blankets more often then not so I just started washing all the clothes together when my son was born. I am now preg and have already washed her clothes with our regular detergent. However since you have been washing with dreft try putting one or two outfits in with regular detergent and see how he reacts. He may develope a rash at first.
Good luck
S.

I've never used Dreft. Instead I use Trader Joe's "Next to Godliness" concentrated coconut based sufectant detergent. No dies, no perfumes so it's easy on (and better for) baby, and it's much better for the environment. It's very cost effective as well.

I think I switched to a "Free and Clear" detergent at around 12 months with my first one. I tried it out first with one of her sheets and when she didn't break out, I switched. I never used it at all with my second child.

Hello,
With my first child I think I used it until she was almost a year. With my second child I only used one bottle of it and then just used our normal detergent. (I think you do things differently with your second child)
He was fine with it and didn't have any rashes from our normal detergent.:)

Hi S.! Congrats on your 10 month old! My son is 11 months. About your dreft question, I never used it. I just wanted to tell you that I wash my son's clothes with arm and hammer for sensative skin. I'm pretty sure that dreft is made for the sensative skin of a baby, so when you decide to switch from dreft, anything that is for sensative skin might work. Just my suggestion! ;) Take care!

i still have dreft i used when my 4 year old was a baby!!! we never used it unless we were out of detergent. i think stuff like that is just silly it doesn't smell good and is a waste of money. but if you try reg detergent and your child has a skin irritation just try tide free or any "free" detergent

We never used Deft. Our pediatrician told us that any Free and Clear detergent would work and that is what we have always used. Considering my son is allergic to everything this has luckily worked out for us.

Never. My mother pressured me to use it but it seemed like a huge hassle to have 2 different detergents so I never did. I use dye and fragrance free detergent for all our laundry anyway. My kids never had any reactions to it.

I have 3 biological children (17, 14, and 5) -- The only time I washed their clothes/blankets in Dreft was when I had a coupon where I got some free... There is no reason to wash your baby's clothes/sheets/blankets in Dreft or other like detergents - if you allow other people to hold your child... They are STILL BEING EXPOSED to other detergents on fabrics on other people or on car seats, floors, playpens, etc. It is impossible to PROTECT your child COMPLETELY from anything unless you raise them in a BUBBLE. lol

I like Dr. Ray Guarendi - have heard him speak (in person) at least 8 times... he wrote 3 books - one is called "You're a Better Parent Than You Think" --- how TRUE it is!!!! We are always too h*** o* ourselves - about everything - not just being a parent...

If you don't want your child to lie - DON'T lie
If you don't want your child to throw fits - DON'T throw fits
If you want your children to love you - LOVE Them

I wish I had known sooner... Children are shaped (for the most part) in the first 3 years of life --- I heard that when our 17 year old was 2 3/4 --- we really started working on her life and what we didn't do - we are so proud of all our children - they are ALL Christians and have their morals and values SET!!! (Of course we need to work on our 5 year old more - but he will turn out great if we keep up what we have done with his sisters)

Have a BETTER day than YOU planned!

I never did use Dreft. I just used the free & clear stuff from one of many different brands that have it now. That way, I could wash the baby clothes in with all of the other clothes. I hated the thought of having to do another load of just baby clothes. Plus, Dreft is expensive!
