I need a good Dr. to help with snoring for my husband. I live on the south side of the Kansas City area. If you have one you recommend, I would be so grateful. So many doctors I have found have no bedside manner and/or the office staff is unorganized and not very helpful. Thank you

What can I do next?

Oh! So excited that you asked! I was TRULY at my wit's end one night with my hubby's snoring. I went on line and googled "snoring". This thing came up "Z-snore". It is supposed to be the person who snores taking the quiz---but of course he was sleeping. It is $60 for a mouthguard type thing. It has reduced my husband's snoring by about 95%. And when I say my husband could snore---on his back, stomach, side etc. I LOVE it!! So worth it!!! Please try. Probably the same thing you'll get from a doctor--just way less expensive. Good luck and tell me if it worked for you!

Have you tried Breathe Right Strips? I use them myself everynight and my husband tells me they make a WORLD of difference!!!
I was going to suggest my GP to you since he is such a wonderful personable doctor but I see that you live about 90 minutes from his office in Meridan Ks...and I doubt you would want to drive that far.
Good luck to you

We saw a doc at OU in OKC, Dr. John Houck. He was so awesome. He reamed out my husbands sinus' and straightened his septum, the polyps in the nasal area were intense. He had a nasal tampon packed in his head to hold the sinus area in shape and it was hilarious when it came out. Dr. Houck pulled and pulled and pulled, more just kept coming out. When it finally came out all the way it kind of popped out. He looked and got some really long, huge tweezers and put them inside his sinus and pulled out this huge hunk of stuff. I asked him what it was and he laughed really loudly and said "It's a booger". I giggled. He is a good doc as far as I am concerned. I hope you can find someone just as good and funny.

Snoring can be from many causes.

If the nose strips don't work and it is a nightly problem:

The most typical reason is sleep apnea.
Most medical doctors will send them for a sleep study test to see if they are getting enough oxygen, getting quality sleep, or what. Thing is, seems like their one remedy for that is a CPAP. Some people love it and it helps them sleep and breathe. About 75% of the hpeople can't get used to it and can't sleep with it.

They have something that a dentist can custom make that will gradually set your lower jaw forward and closed. It allows more air to flow and alleviates snoring and sleep apnea.

They do make cheaper ones that you custom make kind of and I don't know if it works. BUT, sleep apnea can cause real problems as it stresses the heart so much over time that you can literalluy die early from a heart attack in your 50s and early 60's (depending on your fitness).

Dr. Thornton in Dallas invented a mouth appliance called TAP. It is one of the most used ones. He does them for his patients and he teaches other dentists how to make and fit them. A sleep test (or even a modified sleep test) afterwards confirms that it is doing its job. Dr. T gives a free consultation and knows enough about the structure of the mouth and throat to be able to guess if this is going to work or not based on many factors. I'll bet you could call or write him to see if he knows a good and ethical dentist in your area. That cures the snoring. Insurance may or may not cover it (whereas it covers the CPAP). He charges $1200 for all visits, appliances, fitting/adjustments, sleep re-check. Dentists are not able to do the very thorough sleep test though to see if he has sleep apnea. He's listed under "Sleepwell Solutions."

Is your hubby over weight? And he doesnt have to be obese for this to happen because it happens to me. I weigh 135 right now but if I get to 140 I snore. We not only have outside fat that is seen by everyone but inside fat (skinny fat) that you dont even consider as fat. When I gain a little weight I get fat in my throat, and when I relax enough to fall asleep that little bit of extra fat is what makes me snore. He could see a specialist and they can actually cut that fat out if he wanted to opt for the surgery. I said "NO THANKS", and I just try to stay under 140 and keep hubby sleeping soundly next to me :)
