Double Stroller Question

I am in need of recommendations for a double stroller. My second child is due in March and my daughter will not be quite 3 years old. I am just torn between buying a double jogger or a double tandem stroller. We currently have one of each for our daughter, but don't think that will be in our budget to do for when we have two children. We currently use a stroller at the mall, for walks, at the zoo, etc., so I am just needing to hear what you ladies think! I would like to keep the price around $250 or less.

Thank you.

My kids are 3 years apart and we have the Sit and Stand stroller. I love it! The front can hold a carrier at first, then easily converts to the regular stroller once you don't need the infant carrier anymore. The bench on the back is great. It does have a seatbelt on it too. My kids love it. We use it at the zoo and malls all the time!

I have the MiaModa Compagno. It is a stroller and a half. It's better quality than the sit n stand and less pricey that the Joovy Caboose. The MiaModa handles much better than my 2004 Graco stadium seating double. It folds up pretty small too. There is a seat belt for the older child on the jumpseat as well. Check out this link at amamzon & if you scroll to the bottom there is a video review. That review is what sold me on this stroller.

My boys are 18mos apart, and we went with the Baby Jogger City Mini double after LOTS of research. I love this stroller, but it's really "my" stroller for when I go out with the boys by myself. When my husband is with me, we each take one of the kids in a single stroller. It's much easier and quicker to maneuver with 2 strollers than a double. My older son (2-1/2) likes walking, so I'm not getting lots of use out of the double and it was $400 not including accessories (parent console/cup and key holder, rain shield). Still, it's been worth every penny for being relatively light for a double (21 lbs), ability to steer with one hand, good storage and getting me out of the house with both boys. Good luck.

I have a Kolcraft Contours. We tried it a couple of times before the baby came along and both my 2 and 3 (at the time) year old loved it. The baby likes it too, and it has an attachment for our baby carrier that fits perfectly. I like it for a few reasons: I can fit 2 kids and don't have to be chasing after my 2 year old while tryng to hold baby, The seats can be both facing me, both facing front, facing eachother, or one face me, and one face front (thats what I use with baby). also both seats recline which is a nice feature with a newborn, as well as a child who still naps and ocassionally falls asleep. There are also disadvantages: it takes up alot of room (even in a minivan trunk), it is heavy (but I can lift it myself), and we have to take the front seat off in order to fold it up (which can get tiresome). However, for me the positives outweight the negatives.
Also, I just wanted to add that a good place to look for double strollers is Burlington Coat Factory's Baby Depot. That's where we found the cheapest price for ours. (I think around $199?) They have a wide variety, so they might have one there you like for a decent price!

Hi E.,

My two were two years apart and I got a Phil and Teds.I got it off EBAY and it was practically brand new. I bought the cocoon that the newborn goes in (March baby too) but didn't use it much, a blanket would have been fine. I sold it on EBAY for the same money I bought it for , they are so popular and respected! Its easy to drive and not too wide on buses or going through doorways. The only bad thing is I did get quite a few punctures but you can buy a special mountain bike tape to line the tyres if you go for lots of park walks like we did.I hope that helps!

How about buying a baby carrier instead of a stroller, and holding off to see if your 3 year old will even want to ride in a stroller? For the Zoo, you could always get a good wagon.

Greetings!! The absolute best double stroller is the Maclaren double stroller. It is an umbrella side by side stroller but fits through a standard doorway, is relatively light, easy to manuever and will accomodate up to 50 pounds on each side. I bought one when I had my son because I also had 2.5 year old. If you add one of those head support pillows, it can comfortably accomodate the newborn and then it is comfy for my 2.5 yr old who is big for her age. I love mine it fits easily in the trunk of our Jetta and there is plenty of room for luggage, groceries, or whatever. It is also under $250; I think it may be even under $100, I can't remember. They are available at Babies R Us. Best of luck hope you find one you like!

Hi E.,
I also was searching for a great double stroller since I have baby #2 due in January ;-) I finally bought Kolcraft Contours and absolutly LOVE IT! Yesterday I took my little 2 year old son and my nephew 4 for a ride in it and it was sooo easy pushing them both. They loved the stroller as well cause they can face each other in it which they thought it was fun! I bought mine through Craigslist (brand new) for $125. So far I highly recommended, it has so many options . Good luck-A.
