Double Stroller Advice

I am just starting a new job as a nanny for a 10 month old little boy. I have the wonderful opportunity to bring my 19 mont old with me, and with the weather getting to be as nice as it is I don't want to be cooped up in a house all day. My issue is that my son will not hold my hand and walk along side the stroller and the 10 month old doesn't walk yet, so I am in need of a double stroller. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what brand works best and where I can get one for relatively cheap. Most of them that I have found on craigslist are priced between $75 to $100 and more which is way out of my price range.

What can I do next?

A couple years ago when I was nannying and had my own, I bought a double umbrella stroller from K-Mart. It was only about $30 (maybe cheaper), and it has been great! It's a bit more substantial than most single umbrella strollers, with some storage on the back and nice shades that go over the top. And it folds down so compact, you can fit it in any car, and it's super light. Unless you're really into a jogging stroller or something, I would highly recommend an umbrella stroller.

I found when I was babysitting that two "umbrella" strollers with a connector worked great. I found the one I had at Babies R Us. It's just a little plastic piece that hooks onto both strollers to make them side-by-side.

Good luck

i have also done nannying and what I did was to go halves with the parents. I found one on craigslist for about 75 and we just paid half.

Try the Pass It On kids' consignment sale this weekend at the Hillsboro Armory. Lots of great things, for great prices! Go to the website for times, directions, etc... but don't miss out! Last fall there were 5 or so double strollers! www.passitonsales.com

Go to resale events such as Full House Mom & Dads (www.fullhousemoms.com) They are having their Spring Resale Event on May 31st. All of the people selling at the booths are parents of multiples. I am a member (mom of twin boys 20 months old, as well as my 3 & 5 year old girls) and I got both of my strollers (side by side and a front back model) from the resale events. By the way, my boys, now that they are older VASTLY prefer the side by side one for walks, that way no one is in front of the other one, and as twins they really enjoy being able to see each other. The front/back ones are more versatile for shopping at the mall, or being in crowded places.

If you can't wait until the spring resale event, try garage sales, as they are probably going to be less spendy. Shop thrift stores. Good luck!

I got mine for $40 at a resale shop.
My mom got one off the Yahoo group Freecycle. You may have to be patient with this one but I have seen them come up from time to time and you can ask if anyone has one.
also, I use a childs safty harness for my busy toddler when we walk along the street. She is FAST and doesnt listen so its a great way to keep her safe. Those are a few bucks at FM or Target.
