There's a blood drive coming up and I usually donate, but I don't feel like waiting to ask them, so... Anyone know if you can donate blood when you're breastfeeding?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much everyone! I guess I'll just play it safe and wait until I'm done nursing.

You aren't supposed to donate blood if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, but it is always your choice.

I have found that they can use all the blood after giving birth. I am not sure it is a good idea to give blood while nursing.

I donated blood ever 56 days up until the month I got pregnant. I called Bonfils, and they said absolutely not while pregnants, and it's safer not to during nursing. They said it could complicate your milk production since you body needs to focus on generating blood instead of milk. I haven't donated since, but will when my daughter weans. They will not stop you from donating though.

I donated blood while I was breastfeeding and they told me that it is fine. I didn't have any side effects and it didn't change my milk at all. You said that you have donated before so you know how they ask you all kinds of questions to make sure you can donate. So I trusted them when they told me I would be fine and I was.
