The first thing is to clean up any areas that have already peed on. You need to use an enzyme cleaner such as nature's miracle that breaks down the urine and removes the smell.

Next you have to figure out what the dogs are peeing. Is it trying to mark out their territory from each other? One dog peeing and another peeing over the same spot to mark it as his? If it's marking territory then you have to stop giving them free run of the house and keep them in 1 room where you have the ability to mop up accidents and break the habit of leg lifting. If it's basically dog doing most of the damage you can try keeping the dog leashed to you while in the house.

Make sure they have enough time outside to pee and poop. Also take them out walking or to a dog park daily. A tired dog is a good dog.

Making sure your dog is neutered is a good start to prevent marking.

Is your dog just marking or is he/she actually needing to go outside and are not getting that time needed to go out? I work at home so my dogs just scratch at the door and I know they need to go out. In the event I am out of town, etc, I have a pet/house sitter who comes every 4 hours to get them outside and play.

I have used vinegar successfully when there has been an accident. I also have left the vinegar squirt bottle near an area where any accident happened and they seem to get that it is a no no. We lost our oldest of 3 dogs last Dec and after she was gone about a week, my other 2 started having accidents in the same spot. I guess they were establishing who was now top dog because we had not has that issue. I have a girl Cocker (10) and boy toy poodle (8)

We also use golden gates from PetCo. We have 4 gold gates that you can make into an enclosed area but we use them to block off our formal area with good furniture and wood floors, block the upstairs, and at night, we block the family area off and they let us know if they need to go out.

There is a product at PetCo called Repel and it supposedly keeps pets away from certain areas and something called "apple or lemon bitter" you can spray that they don't like either.

Good luck

There are some good answers here. I wonder about some more detail... how old and what gender are your dogs? Are they neutered? Are they actually peeing, or are they marking?

Nature's Miracle is a good enzymatic cleaner for animal urine, but not sure if it stops them from marking it again. If your dog is a male neutering asap would help.

Are they getting up on the cushions and peeing, or lifting their leg on the furniture leg? For cushions, I've seen people put a long strip of aluminum foil across the couch - apparently it annoys them. Just lift the foil when you want to sit, and put it back later. I've also seen people use Sour Apple spray and similar products in the pet store. This is just to buy you time while you re-train.

You also have to figure out if this is insufficient training, dominance assertion, or a medical condition of course. If you're around a lot and they're doing it in front of you, keep a spray bottle of plain water and squirt the dogs when they get on the furniture for any reason.

Good luck!

Why are your dogs peeing on the furniture? Is this a new change in their behavior? I'd do my best to get ahold of that problem quickly. Otherwise, it will keep happening. Sounds like they are stressed. Dogs usually pee in strange places for that reason.

No, you take the dogs outside to the bathroom or leave them in a room with solid material floors and no furniture or in the back yard.
