Dog Urine

My dog had an accident in the house. I have tried everything to get the urine smell out of the carpet. I have bought stuff from Pet Smart and Wal-Mart and none has worked. I used the Bissel spot remover and it did not work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I wold recommend the carpet cleaner that you can rent from Home Depot and the cleaner they sell to go with it. Add a teeny bit of oxy clean in there and it'll look and smell brand new.

We have a puppy and use vinegar first to discourage the accidents and neutralize the oils in the urine. Then I clean with Oxyclean after the vinegar has dried. You can also use Oxyclean in steam cleaners and it does wonders.

Good luck dear, I too am pregnant and know that every smell is exagerated.

It is impossible to get urine out of your carpet and pad below without actually removing & replacing the area of carpet and pad where the urine stain occurred. Many products will help clean it up, but unfortunately, there is NO product (no matter what they advertise. . . ) that will completely get urine smell/stains out of the carpet. Replacing the pad below might help some, but it will still be in the carpet. Sorry. -JM

I work with Melaleuca and I have found that Sol-U-Mel will get the urine smell out. I actually gave some to my Dad and Step-mom to use. They have 2 dogs and 2 cats. They now refuse to be without Sol-U-Mel! Like you, my Step-mom tried everything, but nothing got both the stain and smell out of her white carpet. They were ready to have to replace the carpet until they tried Sol-U-Mel. And a bonus, their housekeeper loves it too, it's not only a cleaner, but a deodorizer and sanitizer too. If you want to know more, send me an e-mail: ____@____.com

SPot Shot works really well. It smells fairly strong, but that goes away and takes the urine/vomit smell with it. J.

Hi S.. It gets worse before it gets better. Nature's Miracle from the pet stores does work. But, you have to make sure that you REALLY pour it on so that it soaks all the way to the pad. Don't blot it up. Just leave the wet spot there to air dry. It takes about 2 weeks for the stink to go away because the enzymes are eating it up. You may also think about buying the black light to see if there are other spots that are really the culprit. I've emailed with the Nature's miracle company in the past. This is why I know this info now. After treatment, the spot may still be visable with the black light. But, the odor will go away. My house smelled horrible for 2 weeks. It was terrible for me as I pride myself in a clean house. But, I assure you. It goes back to normal.

Also, congrats on your pregnancy. I am due with our 1st child in 23 days... any day now!

You have to call this guy. It is called Professional carpet systems and his name is Brett Hallerman-###-###-####. I had a dog that was on medication that caused her to drink a lot of water and thus she couldn't hold it as long. I went out of town and I guess my pet sitter didn't get here often enough and we came home to 3 great big puddles in our master bedroom. It smelled so bad that we couldn't sleep in that room. Brett came out and did an enzyme flush that flushes it all the way past the pad and then has a super suction machine that sucks it all back out. You can not smell anything in our room anymore. It takes a few days to dry out and then you will be amazed. He was so nice. It left a few big rings on my carpet after it dried and he came back out with no charge and recleaned it and they came out. It saved our carpet and I will keep his card close by from now on. We have 2 big dogs!!

Hey S.,

This may seem really odd, but what I have found that works on everything, from dog urine (our dog is now 10 and have been using it that long), to strawberries, to lipstick just the other day is Scrubbing Bubbles!! I spray it on the carpet and wipe off with paper towels. Sometimes it might take a couple of sprays, but it works, and you don't have to pay a professional to clean your carpet. Good Luck!

I agree with everything said about Nature's Miracle. You can buy it in the Pet store in the cat odor section. It works on everything organic. Urine, throw-up, poop, milk . . . you name it! Ditto on the black light. I've been there in the dark too!

You REALLY neat to SOAK the area. I buy this stuff by the gallon.

My neighbor was recently heading out to buy a new couch because she couldn't get the baby-puke smell out of her old one. One soaking of Nature's Miracle and a few days drying time later and she's got her old couch back!

Dalworth recommended to us to use a mix of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water. It has always worked for us. The smell of vinegar will diminsh after a couple of days.

Good luck!

Oxyclean is great, but there is a wonderful product we used to rid our carpet of doggie diarrhea (gag!). Only problem is that I don't remember what it's called. We either got it from the vet or the vet suggested it. So...check with your vet! If that doesn't work, sounds like it's time for professional carpet cleaning. I'd go with the zero rez people.

use plain white vinegar, straight on the spot and then use a cloth to get it dry. Works wonders on pets and kids :)
