Does Your Hubby Feel the Minera Wires?

I got the Minera over 2 months ago. When inserted, the doc said the wires/strings would soften over time, but I didn't ask how long it would take. They still feel "pokey" and my hubby says it feels strange during sex (like it is threading his pee hole!) Do you think I should have them trimmed shorter or will they soften up?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I went to the doctor and she said the strings had to be at least 3cm and mine were indeed long, so she trimmed them and also tucked them up. Hubby says he can't feel them now.

I just got the Mirena a few days ago and my husband cannot feel them. My doctor says that she leaves them long because when cut to short they become really pokey. He could not feel them at all, but if yours are already cut you probably have to deal with it. I am glad she did that after reading these comments.

I've had the minera for about 2 years now and at first my husband complained of the same thing. After a few months he didn't feel anything anymore. Just give it a little time. If you still have a problem (especially if it lasts as long as some of the other women) talk to your doctor about your options. Good luck.

Hi K.! You should have them checked ASAP!!! I had the IUD in and the same thing was happening to me and my husband. When I went to have them removed I found out that the IUD was not placed in properly(it was not all the way up). So you should let the doc know and have him check it out!

Mine took about a year to soften up enough for him not to feel it anymore.

Hi K.,

I have had my Mirena for about 20 months and my husband did feel the wire on occasion. Although uncomfortable since that is a sensitive place to be poked, he assured me that it is not in fact painful, just weird.

We have discovered that changing your position can help. For example, my husband notices it more when I am on top, but if he notices we simply change it up. Over time the wire becomes softer and will be less noticeable. You don't want the wire to be too short, because that could make it difficult when it comes time to remove it.

If you feel that you are worried about the position by all means ask your doctor. He/She can check it and make sure it is in fact where it is supposed to be.

I hope this helps! Good luck!
