Does Sinupret Work?

Here we go again, faced with what seems like its going to be another hellacious cold and flu season. Just got off a round of antibiotics for a sinus infection and a week later here come more boogers. Has anyone tried sinupret for kids and have you noticed a difference? does it help the cold symptoms or does it just boost the immune system and help your nasal passages on a normal healthy child? I would like to do what I can to minimize the number of colds this year but with a husband who was just recently laid off i really don't want to waste money on things that dont work but at the same time don't have the money for co-pay after co-pay. Any advice would be great, they are on a daily vitamin, eat well, sleep good just need to find something else to kick these colds!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am a sinupret fan! It seems to help the symptoms from progressing although i dont think it actually helps the duration of the cold. My daughter was finally able to get over a cold without it going to her sinuses or her ears and best of all no dr visits!!!!!!! And now if i see her nose start to run i give her a dose and it seems to clear up! A few nights ago she sounded kinda stuffy and had some boogers that i had to wipe away expecting to put her to bed and wake up with the dry boogers all over her face and to my surprise she woke up and didnt sound stuffy at all!!! My son was a little stuffy as well and gave it to him and right away he said it helped. I dont know what it would do to a full blown cold but at the first signs it really really seems to help. Love IT!!!

I read the other responses, and I would also like to know if Sinupret works (but got some other good ideas).

One thing though - if you're talking about treating kids, don't do the echinacia or other herbs without consulting a doctor - kids are more sensitive to stuff, and it can affect them differently. A half-dose may still be too much (or any, for kids). The same goes for any OTC medicine that doesn't have a children's dosage - it says consult physician for a reason, so don't just cut the dose in half!

Hi S.,

I was interested in what your responces were because I had a similar question. Mucinex is used only after the cold has set in the lungs and you can hear a crackling sound. It comes in both adult and children strengths. Zicam is not for children under 6 by the recommendations on the box.

One of my great friends has a family home remedy to keep away the colds. She uses and swears by apple-cider vinegar mixed w/ honey and then you give one teaspoon of this twice a day. I had a cold and was fighting it w/ Zicam and decongestant. She gave me a mouthful of this and it was aweful to taste, she then gave it to my healthy 1 1/2 year old and she took it no problem asking for more. Her 2 year old is healthy and hasn't had ANY colds yet this year. It may be worth a try. Good luck!

I purchased Sinupret the other day for my son, who has had a runny nose for a week. Before I had the chance to give it to him, his nose cleared up and I came down with a cold, so I took a dose and it cleared my head congestion, sinuses, lungs and cough up within an hour. I have not taken another dose since but have not needed one. I feel much better, but was considering taking a dose as well as giving my son a dose as a preventative measure. Well worth the money and tastes like a mild honey so easy to give the kids, very light. I hate medicine of any kind but this I will use as my "go to" during cold season.

I have been wondering about sinupret also. Just a few thoughts. Mucinex is not immune support. Its to treat chest colds. I would consult your dr. or pharmacist before trying it. I've used zinc (zicam) and it seemed to help, but is a bit expensive. I currently used echencia (sp?) and goldenseal combination. There are also immune support teas you might find helpful and less expnsive than the sinupret and zicam. Good old handwashing, plenty of sleep and good nutrition are also good defenses. I also think that while having the colds is no fun when they're young, it helps boost their immune system naturally. My 5 y/o son had a lot of colds when he was younger. He started kindergarten this fall and has not gotten most of the crud that is going around. He is a bit stuffy, but not actually sick. Good luck!

We've had a significant decrease in the number of colds we catch since we put a bottle of hand sanitizer at the front and back doors. Returning family members and guests are asked to sanitize their hands when they enter the house.

My husband used to get every cold that was passed around at work. They've had 3 horrible colds since we started this (I think he sanitizes his hands at work, too.) and he hasn't caught any of them. My daughter stopped getting colds from school, too.

We keep the hand sanitizer on a shelf that's too high for the little ones to reach even with a chair. We do use the hand sanitizer on the little kids, but we watch them carefully to make sure they rub it together and don't lick their hands.

I think washing your hands when you come in would be just as effective if I could get them to rub the soap around for a full 20 seconds. My husband gets board after about 3 seconds and rinses the soap off.

It is so frustrating to have children get sick over and over again. Their immune systems get depressed by all the illnesses and then they are likely to catch every other illness that comes around! I don't know about sinupret, but most of the cold medications are no longer recommended for children.

Your best option is to improve the immune systems of your children. This can be done by feeding them the recommended 7-9 servings of fresh, raw fruits and vegetables every day. They should be in a wide variety of colors. I know this is very difficult to do, and there is another option that works to build the immune system: Bridge the gap between what they should eat and what they actually do eat by putting them on the Juice Plus Chewables or Gummies. This is whole food (17 fruits, vegetables and grains) that has been dehydrated at a low temperature to preserve the nutrients and enzymes, and put into a capsule, or Chewable or Gummie form. Because it is whole food, the body is able to use the nutrients much better than a vitamin pill. There is research to prove the effectiveness of Juice Plus on my web site www.madjuicer.com . Dr William Sears, the famous pediatrician, that has written over 30 bookes on children and parenting, recommends Juice Plus for his patients. You can check this out on his website www.askdrsears.com Feel free to contact me if you have other questions about nutrition.

Most kids get an average of six colds a winter.
While you cannot prevent them, hand washing frequently, hand sanitizer when no soap is available, keeping toys wiped down after a cold has passed, teaching coughing in their elbows (not covering their mouth with their hands) will really reduce the chances. I do part time child care so I have all kids remove shoes when coming in and head straight to washing hands before anything. Once a week I wash down and sanitize the toys.
This winter has been a great deal easier as far as nobody getting sick like last year. I mean both kids are a lot healthier this year.

I also will give children's airborne with the first onset of symptoms and that has seemed to help greatly. Talk to your Pediatrician first though as your kids may be too young. I also take it when they get sick for adults so I can stave off getting it. Make sure hand sanitizer is used after blowing noses, you and them, put tissues in the trash before you clean your hands.

Extra Vitamin C, keeping them hydrated, humiditity in the air while they sleep is essential to helping them stave off illness.
The more illness now it will build up their immune system though it is hard to see your little ones sick. Promise. I have a seven year old that was sick a lot between 2 and 5 and now hasn't missed a sick day of school in almost two school years! :)

You don't need to rush them to the Dr by any means unless they have a croupy cough/deep chested for more then three or four days, if they have a fever of 101 or greater for over 24 hours, throwing up for over 24 to 48 hours or complaining of severe headache or ear pain.

Otherwise, just treat the cold with Vick Vapor plugs, vapor rub and hydration/vitamins. Most kids don't even need a daily vitamin unless they are picky eaters. The only time I do vitamins is if my kids are sick as they need that added nutrition factor.

Don't rush them in either, see if you can just call the on call dr or nurse during the day, give them the symptoms and see what they think. It will save you a ton of money! :)

Are they on vitamins? I know that when my girls don't take their vitamins they're more suseptable to colds. I can show you how to get them vitamins direct from the manufacture at 30-40% discount!

I also see that your hubby was laid off! I'm so sorry to hear that. With the economy, that is occuring more and more frequently. I found a way to earn money from home! If you're interested in learning more about it, message me!

You can get a nose spray that can be used on little ones that is a homeopathic called Euphorbium. It works really well. Also, just good hand washing and teeth brushing is a big help.
Good Luck.

not sure of Sinupret, but I know this is going to sound really crazy I made sure my kids always washed their hands and make sure you have some of that hand cleanser around and use on them. Also make the brush thier teeth. sounds nuts but it is the two most health hazards we have. If they can a bit of OJ or the like will help too. I know some can't tolerate it. peace

I will tell you what does work and it is great. Mucinex!!!

It is expensive, but worth every single penny.

Also during the winter months, give them more Vitamin C than normal. It helps.

Good Luck

Zicam is awesome. Take it at the first sign of a cold or whatever, and you'll kick it a lot faster. It's a great one! I don't have any experience with Suprinet, however. Sorry about that one.
