Hi there! Just checking to see if anyone has a Kenmore Elite Side by Side refrigerator with ice maker? Mine is about three years old and the ice maker quit working. The red light next to the on/off switch (on right side of freezer) is blinking in a sequence of twos. I'm not really in the position right now to pay big money for a repairman to come out to tell me it's something minor, so has anyone had this problem and if so, what did it end up being? Thanks in advance for any information!!!

Our main problem was that the motor on the icemaker blew and needed to be completely replaced. Of course, it was outside of the warranty period, and the repairman said that it's a very common problem. I hope for your sake that this isn't your problem, as it was almost $200 to fix. We've also had the piece of ice getting lodged in the tray like someone else mentioned which, obviously, is an easy fix. I agree that if you can find the manual, it's best to look there to help decipher the blinking lights.
Hope this is of some help.

Ours stops making ice constantly. Our water line freezes up which prevents the water from going into the trays. The last repairman claimed it was because we have too much stuff in our freezer which makes the freezer get colder and freezes the line. Whatever. Freezers are supposed to have stuff in it and they are supposed to be cold. Anyway that our warranty is up, we just take a kids' medicine dropper - those little syringe things you get at walgreens for their medicine - and fill it up with boiling water and shoot it in the hole and voila - we have ice again within a few hours.

How funny that the repairman told the one mom that it was because she had too much stuff in her freezer! That was the same answer they gave me when my refrigerator froze everything inside it! That must be code for something like, "these Kenmore Elite's ALL do it, and it's a design flaw, but we're not going to fix it, here's what you can do to cope..."

Try the warm water technique. If that doesn't work and you have time, sometimes you can find an instruction manual online (or check yours if you have access to it). The manual usually will "interpret" the code of the flashing lights.

Ours isn't the Elite model, but we do have a side-by-side Kenmore and have had an occasional problem with the ice maker. The first time it happened I had the Sears repairman come and it turned out that a small piece of ice was stuck into one of the sections where the ice cubes are made. It was so small that I couldn't see it without lifting up the grate "thingie" (sorry, hard to describe!) and looking for it, but it was enough for the ice maker to think that it was full and that it didn't need to make more ice. Once that little piece was out, it started working again. This has happened a few times since & I've been able to fix it myself. Not sure if that helps or not, but just thought I'd share. Good luck!

A few months ago our ice machine quit working but it was because we needed to vaccum the coils at the bottom of the fridge. Once we vaccumed them out the ice maker started working again. If the fridge is too warm the ice maker won't work. OR check the inside of the ice maker and see if there is any water in there or is it frozen? Once in a while mine will get stuck because of a piece of ice that is sideways and gets stuck in the mechanism.
