I know it's getting late for this year but next year, really think about buying Turbo Tax. It gets easier every year...the program walks you right through it! You can compare it to the previous year's tax return to check for mistakes. This year it took me about 20 minutes to go through it the first go around before I started looking for mistakes.
If you are a home owner now, seriously try Tax Cut or Turbo Tax. Both programs cost like $60 and will walk you through every single step. If you don't have a ton of deductions (even if you do) it will ask you very simple questions, walk you step by stip and as long as you have all the paperwork close by, W2s, (the 1098 the bank should have sent you on your mtg) then it is really easy.
I am having a hard time as I have a lot of to figure out since I was self employed this last year but going to give Tax Cut a try. H&R block wanted $300 to do my taxes and I have always done it on Tax Cut for a LOT LESS. Last year I had my two kids as deductions, the mtg interest and that was about it, so it was really easy, took me 35 minutes. This year I will have a harder time but if you just have very minimal paperwork or deductions try Turbo tax.
