I have been on Methotrexate for about 3or 4 years for Psorisas. My Doctor wants to start me on Humira. I have read about the medication and am scared to take it because all I find are the serious side effects associated with it. Has anyone ever used Humira or know anyone currently taking it?

What can I do next?

My husband has psoriatic arthritis he is only 25. He takes the humira shots twice a month and methotrexate too. He hates the shots but he has no other options. The only side effect I notice is he gets really tired the next day. Thats it. Good luck.

I have psoriatic arthritis and used to take methotrexate injections. I switched to Enbrel, which I believe is similar to Humira in many ways, and it has been a miracle drug for me, as well as having fewer long-term side effects than methotrexate. The Enbrel is much more effective!

My dermatologist, Dr. Jennifer Cather, does research on psoriatic arthritis & has published medical articles on it.

Though I'm not questioning your diagnosis in any way, I still would like to suggest to you that there would be zero side effects from going completely gluten and dairy free for about 4-6 weeks, it's free (!), and it might offer some relief to your condition. The length of time is important, as it takes a long time for the dairy protein to leave your system, and it's also important to not just avoid bread, milk, cheese, and yogurt. There are countless sources of dairy that one might not suspect (breads, some processed meats, tomato sauces, snacks, etc.) and tough-to-discern sources of gluten as well (again, some processed meats, tomato sauces, snacks, vinegar, etc.). You can Google to your heart's content and come up with tons of resources.
Just a little fyi I hope can help you like it helped me and my son!

I have been on Humira for over a year with no side effects. I hated Methotrexate. It was tired, had no energy and generally felt bad. Besides for the fact that the injections HURTS for about 5 seconds, I have had not side effects. It is self injections and that is great.
Do you go to Menter. He and McCoy are great.

I've been on Humira for psoriasis for about a year, and it's been nothing short of a miracle for me. I went from 20-25% coverage to absolutely nothing.

The shots aren't fun, but I'm down to every 3 weeks, and the copay is expensive, but that's it for the downside for me. I get bloodwork done quarterly to check for any issues before they become serious.

I have been on mtx for awhile now and started taking humira about 6 months ago. I took 3 shots and have now switched to remicade so I can get it by I.V. The humira was great I have Rhumetoid Arthritis and it helped my pain and mobility so much. I didn't really have any side effects a little nausa but nothing bad. The shots just hurt bad, I am a baby when it comes to needles and I just couldn't give my self the shot. I take mtx in shot form but it is a diabetic needle and doesn't hurt nearly as bad. But the drug was a wonderful relief for my pain.

My Husband is on Humira (and methotrexate)and he says it is the wonder drug. He has rhuematoid Arthritis, and it has help manage his pain, and keep his inflamation down so that he can move his joints. He has not had ANY negative side effects. Humira is costly, but we order it thru Medco on line, and Humira will pay your copay upto $300 for 6 months. (Ask your doctor for the humira card which is inside the information packet). Good luck!

I have been on Humira for almost a year. I have ankylosing spondylitis (a form of RA) and it has helped quite a bit- one side effect that I have found is that I put on about 25 pounds just in my belly...it's really weird. They don't mention that as a side effect and the Dr. says it has nothing to do with Humira but I have contact with hundreds of people who are also taking Humira shots that have the same issue. So not sure what that's about. I haven't ever taken methotrexate.....I am on azulfadine. I haven't seen any of the side effects that Humira lists in their documentation. You should do it....it will help you.

I work for several Rheumatologists and they prescribe Humira for alot of their patients. I have spoken with several of these patients and they say that the benefits far outweigh the side effects. They say it really works well for them. You might try going to MyHumira.com to see if you can get some more info on it. If not they do have a phone # to contact Humira directly and they can tell everything you need to know about it.
