Do You Think This Is Weird? Updated

My BFF and I were out Christmas shopping for our kids. We passed by a kiosk selling pillow pets. She thought they were cute and I commented that I love my pillow pet. Laughing she asked if I seriously had one. I told her yes that I sleep with it, plus I sleep with a really soft blanket.

I told her my kids both have their favorite stuffed animal they sleep with and so do I.

She was laughing so hard and said she cannot believe I still sleep with a stuffed animal and how weird it is.

O.K. is it just me?? Please tell me there are other adults that sleep with a stuffed animal or cuddle up with a blanket while sleeping!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

O.K. so now it's strange and I have attachment issues! LOL!!! I suddenly feel like when I walk up to a make-up counter and the young make-up artist says "Oh I have just the perfect thing to make you look younger!" HA!

I'm very secure with myself so I can laugh at this stuff!

Jo F. I know your question was rhetorical but yes...REALLY! LOL! Although I don't think of it as a toy =-) The pillow pet was my son's but he prefers to sleep with a smaller bear. The pillow pet has that sweet little boy smell that I love when my DS and I cuddle!
BTW, I didn't take your comment as ignorant at all. I think it's funny (and perfectly fine) that some people just don't get me =-)

Thank you to the kind ladies for the sweet words and to those for relating! You have such wonderful hearts!

I still sleep with a stuffed cow named Myrtle : )

My kids love her, but they know that at bedtime, she comes back to sleep with me. I've been known to get out of bed and go around the house looking for her, because otherwise I have a hard time falling asleep.

So, clearly, I think you're entirely normal.

Well, my sister gave my daughter a pillow pet for her birthday last September. She loves it and plays with it but she doesn't sleep with it, I do! It's the lady bug and I love it, now that I am pregnant this little lady bug is what supports my big belly while I sleep. It was a great gift for both my daughter and me :)

LOL! I sleep with a Disney Stitch because it's so fluffy. I don't think you are weird at all... Brookstone sells teddy bears for adults. They are made of their nap blanket material... also for adults. You have just taken the less expense route and found pillow pets. :-P

My daughter (3 yo) has two pillow pets and I was taking a nap with her the other day. I fell asleep on one of them... I have to say, they are VERY comfy!!!!

I don't do the stuffed animal or blanket, but I know a lot of adults who still do that. You are not alone! I have even seen adults suck their fingers, so how is that for weird! At least you're in your bed and sleeping!. My husband hugs his pillow and I get "jealous" because I feel I am being replaced :-))

I don't sleep with a stuffed animal. My "woobie," AKA my security blanket, resides in my nightstand drawer. I don't sleep with it either (although I did sleep with it in college, and my roommate slept with her teddy bear). I guess somewhere along the line, my husband replaced the blankie! But I don't think it's weird. It's nobody's affair what your private bedroom details are. I'm sure your friend has some quirks, too. Don't we all?

Nope. I don't think it's weird nor do I think anyone who does has attachment issues! =-)

I have a favorite blanket I sleep with but I'm not at all embarrassed about it. Then again I have a lot of friends that admit to sleeping with a stuffed animal or whatever and none of us thinks it's strange.

It's all good!!!

In highschool used to wrap my pillow in a flannel nightshirt and tie it to keep it on, and it got nicknamed my "pillow person". I haven't done that in well over a decade but my mum always asks about my "pillowperson" if my pillow comes up in conversation.

That said... I travel a lot. I ALWAYS bring my down pillow. (So useful!) I can get a new pillow, no problem, but my pillow IS my security blanket. Ditto my uber warm down comforter.

My 8yo son is *gradually* growing out of his " 'Dankin" (blankie). I'll sleep with it if he doesn't. After being loved on so much, I can tell you for a fact, it's about an inch away from becoming like the velveteen rabbit. THAT cannot be replaced by any other blanket in the world. It's completely magical, and I'll keep him until the day I die, and it would break my heart forever if anything happened to him. (Yup, you read the pronoun correctly, the blanket is a "him". Told you about an inch away from going the way of the velveteen rabbit.)

Tehehe, Hi J.,
When you put two girlfriends together, one with the giggles, and one with the sensitives....well you know what I mean.

It's not WEIRD that you sleep with pillows, but it struck her as freakin' HILARIOUS at that moment for some reason!

(Weird is me, my guy travels for a living and is rarely home weeknights. When I go to sleep I use whichever pillow that smells the most like his dirty hair! And the oddest thing about THAT is when he IS home I can't stand sleepin' with him 'cause he mauls me all night!)

I don't know if it's weird. Hey...whatever makes you happy.
I am that way with my pillow. My aunt gave it to me when I visited her in Georgia. I never slept on anything to wonderful! She sent it home with me.
I was 17 at the time and I still sleep with it.
I take it everywhere we go, camping, to stay with relatives, even traveling to stay in hotels, etc. I just am so used to it, I can't sleep comfortably with anything else.
My son refers to it as my "magic". If he got hurt or didn't feel well, he wanted to snuggle with it and was convinced it made him feel better.
He's 15 and still every now and then I'll get ready for bed and he'll have it in his room with him.
My aunt is tickled we've loved the dang thing so much.

Like I said.....whatever makes you happy.

Best wishes.

I don't think I have had a "lovey", even as a child. I don't like a lot of "stuff" in my bed when I'm sleeping. Really... none of my college roomies had stuffed animals or blankies and if any of my friends do now, I doubt they would admit to it!

If you love it- own it and don't worry about what others think... just don't advertise the info unsolicited b/c it's a little strange.

My husband sleeps with a bear i gave him. Its a grateful dead bear that i found at a flea market, he thought it was sort of silly at first that i bought him a stuffed animal, but him, being such a big fan of the grateful dead he appreciated it, and it was quirky(and hes a quirky man)Now when hes in town i make the bed on his side to include the bear, he really does sleep with it, unless hes wrapped around me.

I had a 2 1/2 foot teddy bear, named Mr. Bear. I had him until my early 20's when I had brought him over to my friends house, who had a toddler who loved my bear. I gave it to him, then next time I saw Mr. Bear, he had no buttons anymore, his nose was ripped off, and one of his eyes was missing. I wanted to cry so bad. I knew it was my fault, but the little boy loved my Mr. Bear and I didn't have the heart to rescue him from the torture.

I'm glad you can laugh about it all...

When my husband is tdy or deployed I grab my favorite stuffed bear that I have had since I was about 14 and between it and my english mastiff dog I'm able to sleep at night while he is gone. I should say I'm 36 yrs old. I also have a collection of build a bear critters that when my husband is working either swings/mids I will swap out depending on my mood.
My 14 yr old has a giant stuffed duck that shares his bed. My 10 yr old has a stuffed cat that has been all over the place with him and in the past year and half has been spending more time in bed than anyplace else.
I don't see a thing wrong or weird with having a stuffed animal to snuggle with.

funny, i used to sleep with a larger soft stuffed animal and now i don't remember when i stopped! but it was like hugging a pillow...but my weird sleep thing is before i get into bed i HAVE to make sure the sheets at the foot of the bed are perfectly tucked in because I HATE it when i can feel the wrinkles and it keeps me up. and god forbid it gets untucked and my feet get tangled up or stick out! if so, i immediately get up and retuck it all back. I also have to sleep with a noisy fan on...it goes on all our trips with us. sleep is a precious thing so do whatever you need to in order to get lots of it!!!

Just wanted to let you know that I too sleep with a stuffed animal on occasion. I have this huge 2 1/2 ft. stuffed sea turtle that i got in SF and it is so very cute. I have slept with stuffed animals all my life until I got married this year. I am 33. Now i cuddle with my husband, but when he is not around I still cuddle with my turtle. I am secure with myself. I just use my turtle as something to hold on to while I am sleeping....

I have slept with a stuffed animal for as long as I can remember. I remember a trip my husband nad I took that I forgot to pack one, the first night I couldn't sleep worth anything, I bought a new one the next day so I could sleep.
I have a very battered and loved "Booberry Bear" he's blue. I have a 14 1/2 year old cat that loves to knead the bejeezes out of it. When she as little she used to get under the covers and knead it. I figured it was better she knead the bear and not my stomach and breast! She doesn't get under the covers anymore but I keep it above the covers for her and she was curled up with it just this morning.
I find that a stuffed animal keeps me from rolling too much on my stomach and keeps my airways open more so I breath better(I have asthma)
Yes, you could be more "grown up" and get the same effect from a plain ol pillow but what's the fun in that?
Oh yeah..I'm 40 with 3 kids, a husband and 4 cats!

I think it's a little weird that an adult sleeps with a pillow pet, but I do snuggle with a pillow (it's just a regular one) and I pretty much need 2 pillows to sleep well...one for my head and one to snuggle with. So, I think was is more funny is that it's a pillow pet and not a "body pillow" or something more "adult". Don't let your friend make you feel bad for liking what you like! It doesn't bother her or anyone else what you sleep with, so just enjoy and sweet dreams!

No It's not weird. What is Weird?.. Millions of sheeple out there, that only
do what Hollywood tells them to do. People scoff and laugh at someone with a big flower on their head UNTIL hollywood tells them "It's Posh and fashionable!" Then..VOILA..everyone has big bows on their heads along

You see? They only do what others do! YEESH. my major pet peave.

It's absolutely fine that you love a cuddly pillow pet, blanket, or cool stuffed
animal! It makes you unique and not just another sheeple running around!

with a pillow pet yes it's weird. Because there's no real attachment there, there's no fond childhood memories associated with it.
