Do You like Your Dyson or Meile?

Hi,

I'm looking for a vaccuum that will be good at picking up the GOBS of dog hair we have in our home. I have two floors of mainly hardwood and a giant yellow lab who I love but want to shave! Dust mops and Swiffers are ok, but there's sooooooo much hair I need a good vaccuum to keep me (somewhat) sane. So - are the Meile's and Dyson's worth the bucks? Looking for feedback on good and bad about these two brands. If you have another brand you think I should look at, I'd love to hear about it.

What can I do next?

We have a lust for a Meile - so beautiful - but we have almost no carpeting so really can't justify it. We do have lots of hardwood, and a dog and cat and lots of hairballs. We have an inexpensive vacuum that we use for the small amount of carpeting, but for the pet hair - honestly, the best thing I've found is the $50 electric broom. (edit for correction - it's a Bissell) and it has one crevice attachment, and it's light and small enough to get under everything. (Have you thought about Roomba? It seems like it would be good for the light hair pickup, although I don't have one - we do have a floor mate, and can't justify any more floor-cleaning products!)

Wehave the dyson animal, best vaccuum ever!
I have gone through so many in the past, my dad bought one for myself my brother nad himself. Wouldnot trade itfor anything, it is pricey somewhere in the aera of $500.00 .
Never a clog, never a problem there is warranty, and if you by chacne need customer service they were great when I had a question and it has never lost suction.

We have the Dyson Animal. We have had it for 3 years and haven't had any issues. On top of the great job it does with our dogs hair it also does a wonderful job picking up all of the food the baby throws that the dog doesn't want.
Good Luck!

Hi!

I had an Oreck for 3 years and it was awful - light, but only until I vacuumed and it filled up. I researched vacuums and ended up buying just the regular Dyson and I love it!!!! People were saying it clogged and such - I think they just need to take it apart and find out what got stuck. I would highly recommend it! Well worth the money.

Hi!
I just recieved the Dyson DC-17 for Christmas (I am a bit of a clean freak, so it was an awesome gift! :-) )
Anyway, I LOVE it! I also have a big hairy dog...siberian husky, that sheds a ton, and now a cat. I cannot believe HOW much this vacuum picks up. I vacuumed my house with my old vac a couple days prior to using the Dyson for the first time..so I figured there wouldn't be too much sucked up. Oh how I was wrong...this vac sucks up dirt you didn't even know existed! It is a lot different to use than my old one was, so I had to read the instructions and play around a little, but I absolutely love it. I know you said you have mainly hardwood floors, but I wanted to add that my berber carpet has even "fluffed up" since I started vacuuming with the Dyson. I say it is DEFINATELY worth the $.

I don't have personal experience but I have heard from others that dyson will eventually clog up also and there is no warrantly so you will be out all of your money. Not sure but that is what I have heard.

We bought a Dyson and now I wish I would have researched vacuums more. Tends to lose suction (mine not so much but I know others who have had worse problems). Also, difficult to lug around - better if you just have carpet and not great attachements. Good luck!

We have the Dyson. We purchased it right after we got our first Siberian Husky puppy. We now have 2 huskys. They both shed daily!! Right now one of them is in the middle of a full shed.

We mostly have hard wood floors also. We do not allow them to go on the living room furniture, but pups will be pups. The animal attachment is great! When we have guests over and I have the dogs outside, they never think we have animals.

We had the Dyson for close to 2 years. It never once stopped working for us. Let me tell you, we have tons of dog hair!!!! The dyson is great because there is no bag to change. It is expensive, but it paid for itself because we vacuum at minimum once a day and we are not spending money on bags.

It has high suction power! It will pick up socks, paper towels, stuffing from the blankets when the dogs chew them up:)

We purchased ours from Costco for around $465. It had the animal and other attachments. I know they are sold at Bed Bathe and Beyond. You can use competetor coupons there (from Linens and Things). The coupons used to say they are not good on the Dyson, but I don't know if they still have the restriction on them anymore.

They dyson does come with a warranty. I don't remember how long it is for, but we never had a problem with it.

Hope this helps,
M.

After looking at both the vaccuums you listed, we chose neither! We bought an Oreck and couldn't be happier. It was cheaper, lighter, and has been extremely durable. We've had it for four years and I've never had a problem.

Good luck!

I have the dyson animal (the 014, not the 07). I LOVE how it picks up hair (I have a dog (chow mix, so VERY hairy), cat and 3yo). I do not like that it is bulky and I have to change to the hand held to get under the couch, and around the cabinets in the kitchen (the top is too big to go all the way under). I do like the beater brush attachment to clean the couches and chairs, and the telescoping thing is GREAT to do the tops of curtains and stuff. Overall I am glad I spent the $, but sometimes its a PITA.

Love our Dyson, with the pet hair attachement for the extendables. But I hear via consumer reports that Oreck is just as good for maybe half the price? don't quote me on that, but that's what i remember

if they sell them at BB&B or L&T use your 20% off coupon, that'll save you $100

I own a Dyson Animal. I have to say, I love it.
I am an owner of a cat and a yellow lab. I do find that the Dyson does pick up all the hair. I use it on my carpet and wood floor, (actually on anything I can vaccume).
I was not sure if I wanted to spend the money for a Dyson, but
I am glad I did. If you plan on purchasing a Dyson, go to Bed,
Bath & Beyond and use the 20% off coupon.
I don't know anything about the Meile's. I do know, that I love the Dyson and I have a friends who rave about their Dyson also. Good luck.

I don't have either vacuum, but according the most recent Consumer Reports, the best vacuum for pet hair is the Kenmore (Progressive with Direct Drive 35922). The Kenmore (Progressive with Direct Drive 36932) and Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 also got high ratings as well. The Miele Powerhouse S184 was rated #29. Dyon did okay for other things, but not rated well at all for pet hair. Hope this helps!

I myself am a bit of a clean freak and vacuum EVERYDAY. Just until last week, we had carpet in every room but now have hardwood. I own a Dyson Animal and LOVE IT. A Vacuum is something that I could NEVER live without. It worked wonderful on my carpet and just as well on my hardwood. It is very light and very easy to keep clean. It is pricey but worth every penny. I used the 20% off coupon from Linens N Things, so this helped lower the cost. Good Luck and I back up Dyson 100%!!!

We did buy thew Dyson ANimal and it was good with the dog hair. We also bought a Kirby w/attachments and it works well too! I like the Kirby a little better it picks up a lot better but the Dyson is a bit easier to lug around, if you have hardwood floors I would say Kriby because once the attachment is on its easy to get in hard places and does it all. Both are pricey... the Kirby the guy will come to your house, show you how to use it and usually get a good price. If you want email me and I will try and find the guys name that sold us ours. Good Luck!

Rainbow is the best cleaning system you can buy. It even has an under the fridge attachment. I've had mine for years and absolutely love it. I've even used is to clean up drywall after refinishing our basement. I could refer you to our sales rep. but I bet if you looked at the website they could find one in your area. They'll come to your home and do a demonstration. It's without a doubt worth checking out!

Good Luck!
