Do You Have Any Traditions for End of School Year?

Do you have any traditions for end of school year that you do as a family or parent/child? Each grade in school has celebration but I was thinking more of outside of school. For example, on your last day of school when children get home, do you do anything special with the kids to celebrate the event or you just leave it at that (meaning school celebration is good enough)?

In the past, I have usually bought something for my daughter as a gift to congratulate her on a good school year, report card, etc. However, based on the few comments that she made in anticipation of last day that is coming this week I think she would rather do something special on that day. I will be taking day off but I can't really go anywhere overnight with her.
Wanted to get some ideas from this group. Do you do anything special on last day of school?

Thanks,
M.

Well, everyone is talking about dinner, but always their last day is a half-day. So, we (my husband and I and their two younger sisters that are still at home) take them to a river beach that has sand to make it look like a beach (the ocean beach is too far, it is about 3-4 hrs away) IMMEDIATELY after school. I usually bring a picnic. Grandma, Uncle and great-Grandma come, too.

My kids are 21 and 17. He started when the oldest was in kindergarten taking them to breakfast on the first and last day of school. And has never missed! Even as they've gotten older. He just has one more year.

My older kids can't wait to hang with their friends. My youngest and I usually go for lunch at a playland when it's a half day. This year his friend is coming over and we might go for ice cream first. I try to get to the grocery store the day before and stock up with food and have my errands all done so he doesn't have to go along. Going to the park is fun also. We used to go over to my sisters house and play when my older two were younger but we moved away since. Somtimes they have a end of the year party and we order pizza and their friends come over and play basketball.

We are starting a tradition of camping out in the backyard the last day of school to celebrate the end of school and beginning of summer. Hot Dogs and Smores on the BBQ. Tomorrow is my son's last day of Kindergarten and he is so excited for our "camp out".

We take a picture, just like on the first day of school, do something fun like go out for dinner and ice cream or frozen yogurt, and they can stay up as late as they want that night.

My kids are young so we usually do something simple such as a little gift: new book or a movie or just a treat out to ice cream or dinner. This year we're leaving for vacation the first week of July and seeing as my two are not out until the end of this month we've decided that if they bring home the grades and mind their manners they will each get one new movie for the trip. We'll be driving and I picked up a dual screen dvd player for their viewing pleasure so this time around this type of special treat will definitely work.

I always have Alice Cooper's "School's Out" blaring when he gets home from the bus on the last day!

And we go out to dinner--kid's choice.

Every year we count down the last week on the Calendar and when I pick up my son from School we go to Red Robin for our School's Out dinner. It is so fun and he looks forward to it every year and I let him order one of those outrageously expensive drinks (strawberry lemonade etc.) and we always say what we are thankful for the past year and what we look forward to and we toast!!

My son always has a half day. So I take the day off and pick him up and take him out to lunch and a movie. In Kindergarten we saw How to Train Your Dragon & last year it was Hop. This year we're seeing The Pirates! Band of Misfits. Next year it will be both my kids that I'll take out since my daughter will be starting kindergarten.
