Hello, I am new to this site. I am currently 36 weeks pregnant with my first baby and have not found a pediatrician yet. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do you have a dr. that you like and why? All of my friends/family don't live in the area. Thank you!!!!

What can I do next?

I use Dr. Chris Dreiling at Pediatric Associates on Walnut Hill across from Presbyterian. Very happy with the practice overall and I like Dr. Dreiling. He has young children himself and is laid back but in the know about all the latest greatest news/trends etc.

Pediatric Associates of Dallas is wonderful. It is a group practice and I have liked all the pediatricians I've met so far. They are open late and on Sat. and are very flexible with appointments! www.padnewsletter.com. They are just east of 75 off of Walnut Hill (across from Presby) Hope this helps.

We are also with Pediatricians of Dallas. We started there five years ago with our now kindergartner. We also have a three year old and another boy due any day now. We started out with Dr. Neely - I think he is the primary and definitely the "name" everyone seeoms to know - but his style really wasn't a good fit for us. I think one of the strengths of the practice is that each of the doctors is pretty different as far as their style and approach, so there is something for everyone. We got to Curtis now and we love her. She is pragmatic and no nonsense while still being genuinely interested in our children and our family. She's also very thorough and has caught things early that other doctors might have mised.

Our personal assessment of the others goes something like this: Halsell is really sweet and approachable - we're always happy to see her when Curtis is not available. Neely is a little gruff and can be short, but is supremely competent and we have lots of friends who prefer him most. Watkins is the archetypal grandfatherly pediatrician you grew up with. He's great with the kids, easy on the Moms and just a nice guy. My friend drives from Red Oak to keep her kids with him. Yaeger is the only we have had a few bad experiences with and who I would actually avoid seeing.

Overall, we have been happy with the practice including wait times, availability, access to urgent care, extra resources like lactation consultants, and the response from the nurses advice line.

They do set aside time weekly for new parent interviews, so be sure to take advantage of that.

Congratulations on your new baby and GOOD LUCK~

I live in the Lakewood area too and half a two and half year old. We go to Dr. Tina Deuber at Inwood Pediatrics. They are AWESOME!!! It is three women that split from another practice about a year ago. If you call after hours they will return your call within 10-15 minutes (even in the middle of the night). They are all mothers and understand and frustrations/concerns.
We started at one of the large practices. It appealed to me at first because of the extended evening and weekend hours. But, they made me feel like a number, it was more like a cattle call than a dr. The first time my daughter got sick I had to call on a Sunday and they actually charged me for that call! That would never be a thought at Inwood.
Hope this helps. I would recommend going to meet with a Dr. before you have the baby.
Good luck!

I live in Lakewood, too, and we LOVE Dr. Karen Schnute on Garland Road (near the Sonic). ###-###-####. A neighbor who used to live across the street from us drives her kids in from Rowlett to see Dr. Schnute. She's very patient and kind with my three-year-old daughter, and my daughter absolutely adores her. She asks me at least twice a week if we can go see Dr. Schnute, even when she's not sick! It's easy to get an appointment, too, which I like. When my child is sick, I want to have her seen ASAP.

Hope this helps.

I live in Forest Hills - not far from you. We've been seeing Dr. Christopher Becker since my son was little - and we love him. He is a Baylor doc - his office is at 75/Park - right across from North Park Mall. What I like best about him is the amount of time he spends with us when I have to bring my son in. He's delightful - and his assitant, Dina, is great too. They are very accessible - They are open on SAturdays. I suggest that you "interview" him to see if you have a good personality match. That's what I did - and I felt very comfortable and at ease with him. He can be reached at ###-###-####. Good luck! And tell him that N. Creuzot referred you!

Baylor Pediatric Center - 9101 N. Central Expy - the intersection of Central and Park, right across from Northpark Mall. ###-###-####.

We use Dr. Jenny Clifford there (different ped than Susan Clifford) and really like her. Dr. Marjorie Milici is wonderful too, and she is a resident of Lakewood (and an involved Lakewood parent). They have a couple other doctors on staff, and all the nurses are wonderful.

Oh and I think Dr. Stephanie Spaeth there is also a Lakewood resident, and in charge of the Lakewood Pet Watch (that returns lost pets to owners) while also being involved in the neighborhood association.

We too go to Dr. Karen Schnute. I use her mainly because she "lets" me be natural without giving me greif. She was REALLY supportive of my breast feeding even when my daughter was well over one. She would always tell me that is the best thing I could do for her, especially when she was sick. She will not do more than 2 vaccinations at a time and will let me do only one(which is what I prefer). She tries to let things run its course without writing a prescription for every sneeze and cough. We really see eye to eye on most issues, so I we have been really happy. The one thing I don't love is that her nurse will not ask the doctor a question for you over the phone and I don't always want to do what the nurse suggests, because it doesn't aline with what the doctor ends up telling me once I go in. Sorry to be so long winded, hope you find what you are looking for!

I also use Dr. Agrawal (like Tara) and we absolutely love her. We interviewed her when I was pregnant and she took her time to answer all our questions.
She always gives the best advice and tries to avoid medication when she doesn't think that it is absolutely necessary.

No matter which doctor you decide on, I really recommend interviewing him/her before your baby is born.

Good luck,
D.

Someone else already said this but Dr. Neely at Pediatricians of Dallas is great! My daughter is 3-years old and we have gone to him since she was 1-week old. My sister in law brings her 8-year old twin boys to him as well. I STRONGLY recommend that you do NOT go to Dr. Susan Clifford as someone else suggested. She was the doctor that my obgyn recommended and we were not impressed with either her or her office staff. She did not handle my daughter's jaundice well at all and her biliruben numbers continued to rise until we started going to Dr. Neely who got everything under control.

My kids doctor is Dr. Salazar at White Rock Family Clinic and they are great. The girls there are so friendly and Dr Salazar is so patient and answers every question he is more like friend. My kids have gone to him for a year already they love him and he so great with my son and he is the only doctor who has seen my 16 month old son and by now like with my daughter i would of gone through 6 doctors. I am very picky when it comes to my kids health care provider and I feel 100% confident with him and his team. They also have late hours and saturdays open for patients to have flexibility. You will not be disappointed I have referred alot of my friends and they love them. There's also Dr Cheng in practice with him and he is a great physician as well. Good luck. His Number is ###-###-####.

My daughter's doctor has already been mentioned, but I just want to say how much I appreciate Dr. Curtis at P. of Dallas. She is the BEST dr. for my (anxious!) personality, and the advice nurses are great. Plus the lactation consultant worked with me through the weekend when I first brought my daughter home. I think it is a great practice.

I also use Clinical Pediatric Associates. My doctor is Patrick Hieber and he was recommended to me by my boss. His daughter was a premie (weighed less than 2 pounds) and he was her doctor. The whole group is wonderful. They take their time with you so you never feel rushed, they never make you feel like you are troubling them, or asking "dumb" questions. They understand that all of this is new to you. I have also had to see them on a Sunday before. I was able to go to the office to been seen. They charged an extra after hours fee, but for me it was well worth the extra money to be seen my our doctor and not a stranger.

Hello!

Congratulations! I actually didn't pick a peditrician until after my son was born, and paid the price for it too. They charge you more if they have their pediatrics come in and look at the baby.

I'm not 100% sure where Lakewood is, but here's a recommendation.

It seems that nearly everyone we know goes to the first (POD) and our daughter's doctor is Karen Halsell. She's young and has a 4-year-old daughter herself. She's thorough and supportive but also laid back, in a good way. They also have a great lactation consultant on staff. I pretty quickly realized that your child's pediatrician is almost like your therapist in the first weeks and months. A lot of it is about what you're doing and ways to help you get a grip on life with a baby. Having someone you feel comfortable with through all of that is wonderful. I've also seen and heard good things about the other doctors at the practice, which is good since I was there at least once a week for the first 6 weeks!
