Do You Have a Profile Picture on Here?

If not, WHY?? I understand privacy and not wanting to spread yourself all across the internet, but is there another reason?

For those who do have pictures, does it bother you when someone else does not have a pic up?

Just curious.

I have a picture up... it's from 2 or 3 years ago but I look the same!! The girls look like babies though! :)

Or what about putting up a picture of something that represents you instead of a personal picture? Like the beach or your cat or whatever...

OH, I've also requested (and we'll see if it ever happens) to tech support to put thumbnail pics by posts and responses, wouldn't that be neat?

I put up a pic because I like those I converse with to see what I look like - and I like to see what others look like. Most Moms on here do NOT have pics up and it makes me wonder that it must be more than a privacy thing, because most these Moms have a facebook account.

Maybe some of the Moms don't want to be made fun of because of their appearance - which is extremely juvenile, but I've had Moms insult me on my appearances simply because they didn't have a real argument or factual base to debate about - so they moved on to my appearance. Shows you some things about a person!!

I've been a web designer for years and I've learned that the internet is an archive of EVERYTHING you put out there. Just because you deleted/closed an account doesn't mean someone won't find it. I've always been a very private person so this freaks me out. And yes, I do get a little paranoid especially now that I have two LOs and had to deal with a stalker type person =)

I love this site! But, I am very circumspect about photos on the internet of me and of my child. I do lots of social networking, but use the highest privacy settings and have a strict, no "friending" unless we've met in person and actually know one another policy.

I realize that may come off the wrong way to some and may even make me miss out on closer connections with great people, but it's all in the name of safety!

I have a picture of my kids. It's my favorite picture of all time. You can see genuine happiness in thier eyes. I'm not worried about thier privacy or having them online. I want the whole world to see my beauties! In fact, maybe they will get discovered and make mamma rich! ;)
I wouldn't do that on FB, because I am not my children. It aggravates me when an old highschool classmate will request me, with a new married name and a picture of her kid as her pic. SO, I have no idea who she is until I go to her page and poke around. They are a huge part of who I am, but not the whole thing. On here, it's differant, since it's all moms and all about our kids.

i have a picture on my profile, because i love people to see us. i'm not scared of people stealing hte pictures or anything like that. i'm very proud of my family, and i figure you might as well see who is talking. it also keeps me a little grounded, because if you know what i look like, well you could pick me out in a crowd, and if i was rude to you online, you could call me out, lol. but i'm probably the only one that thinks of that, lol.

I have one and I love it. I get so many PM's about how adorable it is. That day my guy wouldnt smile for anyone!! It doesn't really bother me when other people don't have pictures. Sure I want to put a face to their posts but oh well. If they don't want to show us, I'm over it.
***thanks!! I certainly love it! It was one of those hey look and smile kind of pictures. Clearly O didn't want to.

I do now, just never got around to it.

Mine is a far away shot and it is of my daughter and I visiting warm AZ looking at glass art. So everything I am about (warm AZ, even though I live in WI, my daughter and art)... :)

I am a private person, to a certian point BUT if you met me on the street I usually can talk your ear off and you can talk mine off... unless I am sick or late then I usually throw a hi and a smile :)

I have a pic, but its still fairly anonymous. It IS me...waving from my snowmobile, in the mountains of Colorado...but I have a helmet and goggles on and its a bit of a distance shot! LOL. But it IS me! And I am waving at everyone.

This is also my Facebook picture..for a few reasons..mostly cuz I am never in pictures...and also for a little anonymity.

I have a picture of my son breastfeeding. His arm is in front of his face so you can't "really" see him and you can just see my breast, kind of.
I think it's a good representation of who I am! lol
I have thought about putting my picture up, but then I think about the fact that I have responded to some of these women from my area or they have responded to me and wouldn't it be embarassing if I ran into them one day and they knew all about my bleeding a$$ (which is STILL giving me issues), my sex life...or lack there of, my children. No thanks! Maybe I am paranoid, but that's just the way it is. :)

Hi R.
I have a picture up because I am a very free personality and like to show myself.
I would like for all of us to have a picture up but TOTALLY understand the different reasons why choosing not to.
I only have a problem with SOME women who think they have a free reign to say what they want, being annonymous seems to give more courage to be rude. You can see me shouting at the computer "show your face sister ".
Now I will have a look at you R., I usually don't look at profiles anymore because I persume there will be no picture.
All the best
B. k

Since i don't have FB (privacy reasons, don't need Exs causing drama in my life) I figure what's the big deal about one picture here on Mamapedia? If you see a name often (like yours, R.), it's nice to put a face with a name. So I know what you and Denise look like, and I like that. Wish more moms had their picture on here. But I respect the fact that they don't. I like your idea of posting a thumbnail. Sometimes there are a lot of R.'s and I go "Is that THAT R.?" and I have to click to see if it's your picture.

I'd also like to be able to send a specific kind of flower here on Mamapedia ie:
- the daisy means "Creative answer. I love it."
- the carnation means "I totally agree with you."
- the orchid means "I never thought of that. Thanks for opening my train of thought."
(No I haven't sent in the idea to mamapedia. And I don't care what the flowers are (rose, yellow, red, white flower, whatever). I just wonder sometimes "Did she agree with me, or did she think my answer was good b/c she'd never thought of it? Was my answer unique or did it just make her laugh?")

MEGAN - your picture made me laugh too. SO CUTE.

I don't because I'm so private. I don't have facebook or myspace. That said, I'm considering it. I've been on here for 4 years now and Im starting to rethink it. You made some good points. It is nice to put a face to a name or connect a photo to a personality. I know I look at darn near everyones profile. Photos are good, but I really like it when someone writes a little bit about themselves and their family. It can help when answering a post to have some background info.

Well....I have a picture of a rose from one of my rose bushes. I have twisted optic nerves which make me extremely sensitive to bright light. I see the after image of a camera flash for 45 minutes. It sucks. For some reason the people who are in a position to photograph me (ok...pretty much just my SIL) refuse to turn off the flash. Ergo, I don't have a lot of pictures of myself. In fact I pretty much run and hide when someone whips out a camera. I mean who wants to be blinded, right? But I think maybe I'll go through my pics and find a suitable one.

As a mom of 3 grown and now have 5 grand ones, I love seeing the profile pics with kids. They are so cute! Sure, it would be great to see pics of everyone I interact with but it's okay if there are no pics. What I'd like to know is more about the person so I'd have a better idea of where they're coming from. Know what I mean?

yipper skipper lil' dipper! Sure do!

I don't mind if other people don't want a profile picture up! Maybe they are new, maybe they don't know how to put one up, maybe they don't have a picture they WANT to put up, maybe it is for privacy....

I really don't care.

The only time It would irratate me is if someone asked a question like "would I like good in pink?" or "how old do you think I am?"

Then I would think, "well if I cannot SEE you - how the heck should I know?"

Because no matter how well you try to describe yourself, how I "envision" you may be far from your appearance. But otherwise, I really don't mind what people choose to do! It is fun to put a "face" to a name you see a lot... But it isn't like I'll be seeing any of you in the grocery store or anything hehehe!

I think thumbnails would be a fun idea! They could have a few different "free clipart pictures" for those who don't want a personal picture up.

Anyways my current picture is only a few weeks old... soon I'll change is to a newer, bigger, more pregnant picture of me hehehe!

You have a pretty cute lil' family by the way, R. D.!!! Too fun!
