Do You Have a Home Phone?

we are considering having our home phone turned off. We hardly ever use it.. We always use the cell phones. It would save us about 50-60 per month and we have enough minutes on our cell phone that we would not have to change our plan. I was wondering how many other people have done the same?

What can I do next?

We still have ours even though we don't use it. I would consider keeping it if the boys ever stay home alone. They may have cell phones as well, but a home phone will let you know they are actually there - I know a few moms keeping for this reason. T Mobile has $10/month service if your cell plan is with them. It won't work with a home alarm though when I checked about a year ago.

We kept ours at $10 a month, limited calls. I for some reason am not good at always hearing my cell phone when I'm at home. I am notorious for missing calls. It is either in my purse or I am in another room as my cell. I mainly kept it since I have a child in grade school and wanted to make sure I never missed a call if the nurse/teacher tried to reach me and I couldn't hear my cell.

NO home phones here and hasn't been for years! My husband and I have a family plan with our cell phone service and we only pay $80 a month for 2 phones with unlimited minutes. Our internet service is through Time Warner and you don't have to have an actual phone line to get the service. With just internet and no home phone, we pay around $40 a month for high speed internet. I would disconnect the home phone and stick to cell phones only......many people do these days!

Take care.

cancelled our land line over two years ago for all the reasons you mentioned - haven't regretted it once - it's really nice when you leave town because you don't miss any important calls that would normally have waited until you return

We did not have ours shut off because we have a security system. We use AT&T's phone service and pay less than $35 for phone service, and unlimited long distance that includes taxes and everything. I think it is called U-Voice!

If you don't have to worry about an alarm you maybe ok without a phone. My mom only has a cell phone and she manages just fine.

We had 4 hard lines and then we all have cells , 3 of us.

We opted not to cancel the primary line. We have Time Warner Cable and a package that supports our wifi, high speed internet, tv and phone line. The package is not a bad deal....about $140 a month and we were paying $110 for internet and cable only.

We were paying $180 minimum for the 4 hard lines we just got rid of. Now daughter and I are on the same cell plan at $180 per month (both have Iphones and the extra charges for them plus unlimited texting, etc) Hubby's cell (Iphone) is about $170/ month. He has a higher minute plan than we do. We rarely talk on the phone.....we text a LoT.

Also, the security system is another factor to keepone hardline.

Good luck

We have one...I like knowing we have it in case of emergency - if we need to call 911 they know right where we are if we can't tell them - with cell phones they can't immediately know exactly where you are....and we have a security system.

We do still have our home phone, though we recently decreased our services to a plan that is only about $10, but it limits how many calls you can make from it. I just felt safer since I am home all the time to have a land line, but didn't want to spend the money I was spending! It is with AT&T.

Hi, with AT&T you can get phone service for about $10 a month..they don't tell you this until you ask to disconnect as you don't need a landline for DSL anymore. I have a wireless security system so don't need it for that either. I have several friends who are using the MagicJack phone system. They love it. You can buy the box at RadioShack and its about 30 per year.

if you don't have issues with the internet, then i'd maybe consider going to the $10 version. we have a land line that we pay $20 monthly for after you take away the internet portion of the bill. bare minimum everything on that line! then i have a cell phone that i add minutes as i need it, $15 at a time. it works out best for us. i don't like a huge cell phone bill.

I'm still a little afraid to let go of my house phone. There have been some storms that have hit our town that knocked out the electricity and cell tower and the only contact I had with anyone was through my corded house phone.

We have cut it back to the phone only. No long distance, caller ID, or call waiting. It only costs us $25 a month.

Hi there, we canceled ours. We literally had the ringers turned off becuase my husband works at night and sleeps during the day. We do not miss it at all. At first we cut our plan down to the $10 dollar plan for a landline but still didn't use it cause we have cell phones. So just decide how much your phone really gets used and go from there!
